guitar center pricing!!!

hey whats up guys. I was looking for a a/d d/a converter and came across lavry a/d d/a and the ua 2192 a/d d/a. I work at guitar center and they have the 2192 there , and I get it for $1800 (priced at $2395) now the I only heard great things about the 2192. Should I purchase that or go with the Lavry a/d d/a 2 channel (priced at $2500) at mercenary. if they both sound great and are in that pro level category. then i will take the 2192 because I can use the extra money to put in to a great river
thanks adrian

I'd get stuff you can get an employee discount on now. Turnover is pretty high there, so this may be a limited opportunity for you. Wait until you max out your discount, go on a gear buying binge, then worry about picking up things you can't get at GC. Mercenary will be there for a long time, and i don't imagine them increasing the percentage markup. Don't read this as a recomendation of the Lavry over the 2192, btw. Just base the order of your purchasing decisions on your current situation.

Theyre both very good- get the 2192 at the discount...FWIW you should be able to find the Lavry for about $2200 if you look around.

Mercenary does not go out of its way to make their prices attractive to customers. In fact, they often charge more for the same item than just about every other retailer. Their notion is that you *want* to buy from them bec of their *expertise* and whatever 'insider' 'pro' hype vibe they have. They also offer an extended warranty for some stuff. A notion which is basically dead in the internet warehouse era and especially when most manufacturers offer warrantys and honor them long after they are over.

I've purchased one item from Mercenary. It happened to be a mercenary edition, but it saved me a 7 hour drive to the closest dealer. The return policy was nice, although i realize some of the other dealers i've done business with in the past would work out a similar deal with me. Luckily for all those involved with Mercenary, my "normal" sources don't carry some of his products.

I love the UA. The Lavery is a great piece but for what you can get the 2192 for I would bite. Just my 2 cents.

That's a great price for teh UA......I LOVE mine......I say go for it.....if not you can always sell it and maybe make $100.00.

But I have a feeling once you have it you won't sell....

would the manager let you take it home for a night and try it out?

it would make you a better salesman, because you could talk from experience, not canned marketing copy.

I haven't been able to find a deal on the Lavry, where did you see it for that price?

thanks alot guys for the posts!! I really appreciate it. Well thats cool because its actually going to cost me $1733 . The only thing is there isnt a dedicated phone jack for me to monitor my mix through headphones. I got digi 001 . If i use that its going to sound bad. whats your take on this guys is there anyway around this. lavry doesnt have one either just the mytek. so I dont know if i should the mytek, im mean ua and mytek are in the same level.

Dont let that stop you from picking one up for 1733!!!!! Even if you have to figure out your monitor chain later, your tracks will benefit GREATLY from teh A/D.

The benefit about Mercenary and other boutique dealers like Atlas is that most of them allow you to try out a few pieces of gear before you buy.

You're asking which converter you should buy, and are going to buy because of someone else's opinion and ears.

The boutique shops would probably be willing to send you both the lavry and the ua piece so you can compare them for yourself.

That service on top of real expertise can save people a lot of time and money.
