Advertising your rooms

So, I'll be putting out the studios first print ad soon and thought I'd get a bit of advice or guidelines, perhaps even some examples from you guys.

We usually rely on word of mouth but I was offered to take a punt with a print ad and thought I might as well go ahead.

Other then word of mouth, what are you finding is an effective means of advertising your stuidos?

I did a bit of searching on GS, it seems that others agree that the only effective promotion is word of mouth.

Keep putting out decent records then.

Eeeee... I ran a print ad once, in the local "scene" bi-weekly... you know, the paper that covers the sleazy underbelly of local politics, heralds the local unknown stars, has sex advice columns in the back pages...

Never again, man. The kinds of people who are sifting through papers like that, looking for a studio, totally isolated from the general culture of local musicians, which I've found is a very socially networking beast... are the kinds of people you are sorry they called. I was.

We actually sponsor a few different local music events that occur on a weekly basis. We hang a banner, leave flyers and shit lying about. We've only been doing it for a couple months but so far we've booked enough days to more than pay for the money we spend.

Go to your local music store. Find the coolest looking guitar salesman you can find. Record his band for "free". Referrals will come. If you live in Utah, then disregard post and move to somewhere with less corn.

I keep losing ballpoint pens so I'm thinking of having a few thousand made with my site name on it.
