Happy Accidents

Just tracking a new tune to get out around Mother's Day.

Got two nice acoustic guit tracks blended and then realized that I had the click track up a little too much.

Who said to let it bleed??

Anyway, when I tracked the scratch vox I had a very cool line about 'the old clock still ticking in the parlour'....rada rada ra.

So....I'll be dipped if I'm not going to fade the tune out to the click track when it's all said and done.

Now I KNOW some of you guys have better stories that that about sonic 'situations' that ended up working out just right.

Nice. I just finished working on a reggae project. On one of the songs, when the vocalist finished his final chorus he said, "So... brrrrrrr [like a bird sound], that's it bro". I left it in by mistake so it was in the bounce I did that day. I guess they must have showed it to a few people because later when we removed it their friends where saying, "Why did you take out the talking at the end?!?! That shit was cool!" Of course I ended up putting it back in.thumbsup

I was mixing a version of "Aberdeen Mississippi Blues" that a buddy of mine and I covered on our last CD. He had been having a hard time with the harp tracks, and we had done rather a lot of harp takes.

When I sat down to do a rough mix, I accidentally left two of the takes live, rather than one. Interesting, he played the WHOLE song identically note-for-freakin'-note on the two tracks, except for the second bar of the solo. It was so tight that I didn't even notice... except to think "man, that harp sounds FAT!" Of course, I noticed when the solo came around and the two parts diverged... but it sounded like a very cool harp dual. We kept it that way on the CD. Jason Ricci, a pro harpslinger, heard it and thought it was all done on purpose.

This thread reminded me of working on a dub-like song many years ago tracked to tape, and I had recorded a metronome on one of the tracks. When I called it up later to mix it, I accidentally sent the metronome track to a delay unit, and ended up using it in the song. Sounded sort of like a sidestick by the time I added some distortion to it.
Thanks for the memory!
