that is an absurdly expensive notion!! leave it to this forum to suggest it! ------------ i just realized this thread already exists in a 7 page long form (heated insults and all) still, seeing that these units are gonna be rolling through people's doorways in about 20 hours and counting: let's get some shoot off audio samples going - am i right? Bricasti vs. the PCM96 seems to be the most heated still, it is noted that these are functionally going for "different kinds" of reverbaration - other posts have noted Bricasti's striving for a, "natural sound". Still, I think everyone would like to hear these (at least similar looking) units side by side (those of us without 6000 dollars to spare) begin! |

| You mean the Bricasti doesn't? Infinite reverb is such an old trick - even some freeware software plugins offer this Hold feature (thinking of Freeverb2 and Magnus Ambiance. Lots of budget hardware reverbs have it.

I've heard them both. Gotta say, the PCM96 is really good. I was expecting to not like it, but Lex did a really nice job. That being said, the comparison is a bit like 1073's vs. Pultec's. These are both very high-end sounding boxes, but in function, I don't think they're 1:1. And I don't think the single audiofile sample test does the Bricasti justice (because of what it does best...more on that in a sec.) The Lexicon excels at putting a luscious swirly tail that's more long and gooey than what you find in reality. (kinda like a Michael Bay movie). The Bricasti has an insane amount of realism and detail and has an unbelievable knack of merging the original sound source into the M7 space. This characteristic also lends to creating a cohesive space for audio recorded in difference locations with different amounts of ambience. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the Lex sounded more impressive on an individual solo instrument clip. In a mix, the Bricasti can really make you say, "WOW!"
