XLR, TRS, patchbay, patch cables, where to lift the shield connection??

I've got my Mogami 2549 and Neutrik connectors and I'm getting ready to make some cables this weekend, but first I've got a question for those of you who make your own cables and use a patchbay.

I know I should connect the shield to the output end of my cables and not connect the shield at the input end of my cables but with a patchbay where do you determine the final input end to be??

My initial thought was to attach the shields at both ends of my XLR to TRS cable (preamp output to patchbay) and attach the shields at both ends of my TRS patch cables (so it doesn't matter which end is the input and which end is output) and then attach the shield of my TRS output from the patchbay end but leave the TRS input shield to my 002 end lifted.

Am I overthinking this WAY to much??

What do you typically do??

Thanks in advance!!

I always attach everything at patchbay, but often with a common GND buss.
I then only lift the shield (GND) at the jack or terminal strip feeding the device's input.

This way the shield is intact for the whole path.

From DEVICE A to the PATCHBAY thru the PATCH CABLE out the PATCHBAY and on to DEVICE B.
The return would be wired just opposite.

I have interfaced about every type of audio device possible this way and it always works hum free.

She's tough.

She is also the type that has to learn everything the hard way.
There is no better way to understand and have respect for electricity than to get a "taste" of it.
