Firewire Question

Hello all,

So this weekend I'm going to be recording with a MacBook and a MOTU interface. The session hard drive is FW400 only so would it be better from a stability point of view to have the Firewire chain going:

Laptop > Hard drive > Interface

or:

Laptop > Interface > Hard drive

My feeling is to put the hard drive next to the laptop so that in in the event of an interface failure there is a chance of the hard drive keeping the data..

Thoughts?

You are correct. It is a details that is missing form the PT manual.

With my old Powerbook, I have to use the cardbus with a FW card or it stops recording. Don't know if it will do that for you, though. I live in G4-land and must put drives on different busses from the 002R...

The best is to get a fw card so you can split firewire chain. I like to have my interface on a separate bus from the hard drive. I don't like to chain them. PCMCIA card.

Henry's right, to agree with me, but for a MacBook you need a fidderent kind of car, PCExress or something? They are very cheap, check OWC www.macsales.com:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firew...i-pcmcia-cards - or maybe the Macbook doesn't hjave the slot for it? I know Macbook Pro does...
