Mackie 1640 and additional preamps at same time. Hello, I'm going to use Mackie 1640 with intergrated interface for drum recording, and two additional preamps for BD and snare drum. Is it possible, how should i connect them together? BR, Tony

If i connect preamp succesive with Mackie's Mic In, it will corrupt the amp's sound. P.S The mackie is connected via Firewire, so i cant connect preamp separately from mixer. Tony

Preamp->stereo (effects) return Plug the preamp output into the (stereo) effects returns. Cleaner. There's a price with this method: you loose the ability to pan.

^the above method won't work, because the signal will be coming into the board after the FW send you'll have to go with the line in, as warhead stated

Tony, I have an Onyx 1620 with firewire, and a Great River ME-1NV in addition. I tried using the line-in method but was never happy with the outcome. In the end I added an Apogee Duet (mac only) to my rig specifically because the breakout-XLR inputs on them can be set to be used as either XLR Mic in, XLR +4 Line in, or XLR -10 Line in. It's an added cost I know, but I must say the GR sounds much nicer going into Logic via the Duet. I have the Onyx and Duet set up as an aggregate device, with the Duet as the clock master.

Thanks for the anserw! I'm now going to use Mackie for multi-track recordings (live, drums), and preamps with other converter. The question is, can i use Mackie's firewire interface, and other converter at same time? I am running win XP.
