B-band's UKKO Drum System

Has anyone else heard of these things? UKKO by B-Band

I'm not really sure what they'd be like. The idea of no bleed on drum mics is cool and all. I'm just not sure of the idea that the drum is technically being miced from inside the drum. I'm interested to know if anyone has any real-world experience with these things.

It's a pretty unconventional approach, but I've always been open to different things as long as they sound good.

Anyone else have an opinion?

Never heard this particular system. It could be great... I would allow for the possibility that they have made a breakthrough in contact mic technology, but my prior experience with contact mics has been disappointing. They are fine for triggering, (where you don't hear the mic!) somewhat unnatural for live sound reinforcement, and just too weird for the studio.

The pure vibrations moving through the shell are not the same as the vibrations the drummer hears in the room. The contact mics I have tried in the past just sound "funny". Plus, if you are going to have such isolation, you might as well just trigger samples.

the more expensive sampling programs now offer ways to simulate bleed and interactive resonance, which is kind of an admission that the "messy" sound of real drums is the goal most are striving for.
