(disclaimer - I'm a LONG TIME Cubase user) I would start by saying congratulations on seeing the light. Seriously.... I've used Tools and DP extensivly and don't think they can hang for composition/production. Can't speak to Sonar or Logic 8. Cubase 4 is a good step forward for Steiny. I think that the new VST3 plugin format is a revolution for native stations. It's logical; no audio passing through the plugin, no CPU cycles used. Why everyone didn't do this from the beginning is a mystery to me? Other features I'm totally addicted to.... - Folder Tracks - Logical Editor (boolean terms used to edit midi) - Offline Process History (any process can be undone or removed without effecting others) - Gain and Fade handles on events (aka regions to PT users) - LOOP RECORDING TO LANES (smokes.... If you're not recording to loop lanes and using the mute tool, you're missing out.) - Generic Remote Devices - Score view Granted these features are availble in some form in other DAWs but I've not seen one does as many things as well. Either way... I'm a fan. If you're in Nashville you need to hook-up with the Nuendo/Cubase Club. Club Cubase Nashville HOME (damn that is one ugly ass page) |

i've used logic, dp, and cubase extensively over the last 10 years. all 3 clearly have their strengths and weaknesses. logic is my favorite, because i'm a customizing fanatic. but i will say that cubase's folder tracks and the way you can associate automation with regions are incredibly cool. never used the offline undo, but that sounds badass as well. the idea that something may have overtaken logic in the cpu efficiency dept has me surprised. in all previous versions of all 3 apps, logic (IME) consistently *smoked* the other two when it came to gui snap and raw plugin horsepower. you can run logic up against the wall redlining everything and it becomes maybe 5% less responsive; cubase bogs down a lot more, and dp, which is always slow to begin with, just gets worse with every process you tack on. these things always leapfrog each other, though, and i long ago gave up on the ship-jumping approach. i got music to make! gregoire del ubk . |

| That is for sure.... people are far better really KNOWING EVERY function in a single program really well than jumping from one to another for the sake of "the best."

I used Cubase for a while. I never really liked working in it. Made me want to poke myself in the eye with a sharp object. I haven't tried C4 (I assume most of the work flow is still the same just more tools and what not?) Anyway. I just never was comfortable working inside it. I am big Proponet of protools. Use it now, work a whole lot better in it. But I think that's just how my mind works and it kinda matches my work flow and how I think better than cubase or any of the other programs I have used did. That being said, I do find it interesting that it is so much more efficient with DSP, and kinda curious what the differences would be. Although it doesn't matter much to me as I don't use many plugins to begin with. But still curious anyway. -- Ben

i'm just scratching my head wondering how on earth you can compare Logic and Cubase on the same platform - since that would be the only fair comparison.....

You thought Cubase wasn't available for Mac? Cross-platform since 1992 when they began to support Windows. (Mac since 1990)

As a freelance mix engineer, I get that alot too, Q. So why you choose Logic? A. Because I have a Mac. .... they don't even know what else is out there! Hats off to Apple though, they got 'em right where want 'em ( in the pocket!) |

![]() Now back to regular progamming -I am of the same thought as UBIK...master one program and learn the workarounds for the stuff it cannot do.After watching the Kenny Gioia videos I was amazed about how small little things could improve your productivity

Cubase is god. I have been running Cubase since about 96 on an Atari 1040. I will never switch. I have done sessions on PT and its terrible. I hate it. Cubase for me, is great. Back to music making! (damn this site is killing my productivity!)
