Just finishing the last of them. Honestly, most all of them sound really good. Some stick out to me over and over again as killer.

No. Funny you just posted this because I just sent Nathan an email 1 minute ago. I can't add it in; 1 of the singers is out of town as is the acoustic guitarist and the amp I used for the heavies.

BUT!!! I will run it thru the paces next week and post the mp3's on the shootout thread. Sorry guys, It just arrived 2 days to late.

James, you can keep it for as long as you need to, the first run of production models will be here in about 10 days so I won't need it for demos, etc. No pressure though, that's if you are able to get the same amps, mics, singers, and players together to do it and you still have time. Either way, thanks again.

I am trippin' out over here listen to all these burns back! As far as heavies, for me it's:

In no order:

Mint Julep (great fatness and presence)
A Designs Red (Monster depth and great edge)
Mono Gama - Discrete (dry and upfront.. in your face dry and raw) Boner factor!

edit: I just listened back a few more time, when the heavy down stroking starts at around 10 seconds the A Design Red just blows past everything! F**kin' killer pre! That pre crushes my soul on heavies.

Just listened through the male and female vocals and acoustic guitar.

First thought; both LaChapell's for vocals were the best to me and the V killed on acoustic guitars, was probably my fav of the day.

The MA5, A Designs Blue and Mono Gama - Nickel all sound beautiful to me on all the vocals and stood out instantly as sweet!

So, IMO the LaChapell 583s was the king of the night... but I think you could make great records with just about any of the units.

Uploads are coming......................

Why not put everything together in a torrent file, and then we can listen to everything in WAV. if everyone here helps seed, it will download in no time.

I have 87 - 45 to 55 second 16/44.1 files from the shootout.

What's the best way to get them to you guys?

BitTorrent as suggested earlier would be a great idea. If you could initially seed a zipped folder of the contents it would spread like wildfire. If you aren't comfortable seeding it I'm sure someone here could. I would volunteer but I'm not so sure I would know what I'm doing.

THANKS AGAIN JAMES!!!

After doing some investigating it seems its as easy as downloading Azureus then choosing File > Share > File.

I would be happy to give it a go for you... PM me if you'd like.

I don't think that's correct, I believe the API 500 format was around before Aphex existed. As I understand it 2 guys who had worked at API started their own company, B&B, & made a compressor/expander (cx-1) & an parametric EQ (eqf-2) to fit the 500 series racks & consoles, and they then sold the designs to Aphex who made those units & lunchboxes & racks for a few years. FWIW I own an Aphex 11 space rack & 2 B&B cx-1s.

Very keen to hear how the LaChapell stacked up.

I agree - but it still would have been nice to hear the comparisons.
I just picked up my Dual99v and TG500.
Thinking about the LaChapell for a valve flavour.

James.. I can also help with a torrent file, if need be. It is a fantastic way to get files spread quickly. My upload speeds are great here.

I can also walk you through it rather quickly, if you wanna give it a shot. You can just leave it open for about 24 hours, at which point there will be enough new seeders to take it over for ya.

So that's what 800M?

I would suggest packetizing them according to instrument auditioned, using zip or something equally ubiquitous, and offering them that way. Any file hosting site could handle that for you. Or you could serve it from your own site if you want to keep up with the number of downloads.

Also, one other potential gotcha, which I'm sure you'll hear about. Windows Media Player will NOT play aiff files. So, for those who might want to DL them and just toss them into a player which most default as WMP, they won't be able to do it. They'll be frustrated and you'll hear about it.

I speak from experience. I found out about that too late when I offered all the samples from my comparison CDs online in their original format, which is aiff.

We are doing some tweaks to the forum that meant attachments have been suspended for a short while.

This will resume soon.

In the meantime please be patient, we are sorting it out.

The files will be heard here first so we don't need offers to host the files elsewhere.

Thank you

Hey Paul,

Thanks for the clarification and detailed response! I remember reading that Paul asked permission to use the rack, maybe it was for the STANDALONE rack idea? Not sure where I picked that up. Obviously the format used within the API console predates the standalone rack or 'lunchbox'.

Cheers

Matt
