Avalon 737 might give you a good counterpoint. It's really nice for R&B and back up vocals with the U195 and good for acoustic guitar

The Buzz MA2.2 is a great pre for the money, too.

Hey Magic Genei,
What did you end up using to record your piano with? I remember awhile back you were looking for some mics to use.
I am considering a pair of DPA 4003's or the 4016's with a Millennia HV-3B.

On the last two CD's piano was recorded with my [gasp] o2r's preamps, which stink.

On the voice I mostly used the Martech.

SO I got rid of the o2r and now have a pair of Buzz and pair of Millennia M2'b tube, which I plan to cut soon on piano. I assume I'll end up going with the Millennia but I'm not sure yet.

Depends on what kind of sound you want... But, I would probably reccomend an API 3124Plus. Either that, or maybe a Buzz Audio..

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

Audition a Buzz MA2.2 if you can. I got a big surprise when I did. Great piece of kit, and I think it would be a good fit for your applications.

I'd just say get the best pre you can, cause it's the most important thing to haev one good channel of pre.

D.W. Fearn or Martech are my top suggestions today.
