Thread Starter | Big speakers for tracking - getting a cool vibe
So you`ve got the amp blasting out in the liveroom , the guitarist/bassist is ready to rock out in the controlroom. The drums are tracked , scratch vocal too. And then ; You turn up your little Dynaudio Bm5a`s ..... I`m looking for some big speakers to go in the controlroom , to get a rockin`mood going , while tracking. They don`t have to translate well , I don`t plan on mixing on them ( `exept for maybe checking some low frequencies etc) They just have to be loud and big , this is for blasting rock and metal.... Any suggestions? I`m not above anything , really. I`d gladly get some cheap Behringers or whatever if they have something like this. (I AM picky `bout the quality , but I don`t have the budget for top stuff now. ) It`s difficult to give you a pricerange since I am in Norway , but think in the area around 500-700USD , secondhand is fine. Thanks! thumbsup |

I would say some second hand pro live type. A pair of used EAWs or Turbosounds...etc. Even stage monitors. Strangly bigger can be better here although not to big but if you have to "wheel-in" some bins for a session that is rocking so what! Thats kind of cool and thats of course dealing with the fact that you don't have $30,000 Ausserbergers (however its spelled) right now. I think the effect would be better than some super small, tight yet "pretty loud" pro zone type speakers which I think some might suggest. Plus I think that the bigger ones would help with the performance and thats what counts. Good luck.

any of the large, 3-way jbl studio monitors in the 43xx or 44xx series will fit the bill nicely. should be easy to score a pair for your budget. with the right amp, they're a lot of fun to crank. gregoire del ubk . |

| Sounds like you just need some showy subs to put under your monitors. -tINY |

On the placebo front, I was once in a studio where there were very large looking soffit mounted mains, which were in fact small dynaudios in large wall cavities with 'acoustic foam' covered frames mounted in front to hide the truth. Andy
