Drum OH mic?

I was told by some of our recording engineers here that a good mic for not alot is the rode nt4. I want to use this for drum overheads and maybe otherthings.I play in a band and only read about recording stuff.I know ALL about my tone and mics but not the drum`s.Any help would be sweet! If this is not a good mic tell me what you recommend. THX

Before you buy a pair of mics do you have a decent sounding room to record the drums in? A good sounding, well tuned drum kit? If you have those I'd recommend oktava o12's if your on a budget. Sometimes guitar center has them on sale for $100 a pair and they can easily be found used. If you wana spend a little more shure ksm 137s are very clear and preset and are good for acoustic instruments.

I have good results for drums in a not so great room with Rode NT3 - low cost, very directional so you can aim them to get what you want and not what you don't. Under $200, and good on live guitars for PA too.

If you're going to go the NT4 route, don't - you'll be stuck with that XY configuration. Get the NT5 pair and set them up as XY or whatever you would like. The mics are the same in both.

I've been using AT4033's for about 5 years now. They've never let me down..............

I like the AT's too - take a serious look at those

But my new love is the Beyer M160. It's a Ribbon mic - I used it at the last session and the result were very pleasing.
