Speaker Burn In?

Ok, I have to confess, I don't understand this concept of letting speakers burn in. It used to be, in the old days, the stereo speaker salesmen would tell you to burn in your speakers for two weeks. Then, they would be out of the return grace period and you couldn't take them back. I would assume that high end speaker specifications would be totally invalid if they measured the speakers in the factory, then an uncontrolled burn in happened.

Seems like guitar and bass amps, with lots of SPL, could change over time. But high end studio monitors? Is it measurable? Are you sure it's burn in and not your ears getting used to the sound? Has anyone a/b'd a pair of brand new speakers vs. a "burned in" pair?

So. Speaker burn in on good quality monitors --- fact or fiction????

I could post about suspension changes over time and compensation for new suspensions and sampling on the production line...

But I think you should praise new monitors and give them those wanting eyes for a while - They'll be much more willing to do chores for you later that way.
