Thread Starter | What do YOU use the Waves SSL series with? I use the Waves SSL Buss comp on bass drum and snare...I can't really find a use for the channel or EQ though. The EQ seems a bit harsh to me. What do you usually use the different ssl plugs with? |

| i use the channel strip more than anything and i use it mostly on drums. ssl stuff is so fast and precise that i find i can really accent and shape the attack and tone of drums. i also like the idea of having that channel strip on most of my drum tracks as it feels more like mixing on a console. i might not use one or two elements of the channel on certain tracks, but they're there if i need them. kinda stole the idea from reading the tchad blake Q & A where he talks about putting a URS eq on every channels and just using them where the needs 'em: Quote: Tchad Blake ITB start up, for now: EQ=URS API (550 style) on all channels. Compressor=SSL channel on kick & snare, Massey MT4 on all others. Drum bus= C4 multi band comp+SSL comp(sometimes 2 SSLs). Mix bus=Phoenix, ML4000. FX channel= mono dly/Echoboy(TelRay or Binson), stereo FX/Altiverb. from there, anything goes. __________________ tb |

| I was talking about the channel as well. I don't know what I like about it... I just like it, especially on drums. It can make the drums really punch through. Also, it's very precise for an analog sim EQ. The compressor is really special too. If you think drums are too soft, use the compressor on auto attack and the drums will really crack. It sounds very "hard". I don't know of any compressor which sounds that way. The fast attack mode is also very useful for completely nuking tracks such as room and whatever. Also, try the CLA Filter Vox preset, sounds wonderful for that up close intimate telephone effect. |

| I think Drums is where the SSL Sound really shines. The Channel EQ is aggressive and certainly has grip whilst the Compressor is godsend on Drums - thus E-Channel on all Drumtracks! Talk about crack and snap on Snare. I have the Buss Compressor on the Drumbuss (+Tapehead) and use an outboard Gyraf SSL Clone on the 2 Buss. The EQ is really colourful (softer sounding than the E-Channel) and I like it too but it's definitely the Plug In of the Series I use the least. Sometimes on the Guitarbuss, though I mostly prefer my Toft Outboard EQ there or Filterbank for more precise cuts... All in all I love the SSL Series. That and Massey Plugs are basically all I need when it comes to compression and EQ. Compressorbank and Filterbank is cool too but I use it a lot less since I have the SSL and the Massey stuff
