Brand New Yamaha Upright Piano blues

Hello,
I have just been commissioned to record several songs prominently featuring in an upright piano in a studio I was happy to find out had just aqcuired a upright. Unfortunately, I showed up only to find out to my dismay that it was a brand spankin' new Yamaha upright.
Now I don't know if you've had any experience in this department, but it is rough to get anything warm or nice sounding out of a brand new piano like that, seems damn near impossible to me. Not to mention, you got to get the damn thing retuned every 5 minutes..
So please, if anyone has any experience with this kind of situation,
any gear things I can do to "synthetically" warm everything up. Have access to several pre-amps (LA-610 etc..)
What can I do here? What do you suggest? Ever been in the same boat?

Best bet is to get a good technician in there and soften the hammers.
