Toft ATB 24 with PT LE suggestions.

I recently picked up the Toft ATB console and was hoping that some ppl on the forums might be able to share with me how they are utilizing their ATB (or something similar) and Pro Tools for tracking, overdubs, and or mixing. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on using the pres on the console for tracking drums and then utilizing the line ins (with a Shadow Hills GAMA and Universal Audio solo 610) for guitars, bass, and Vox. Then going out of the Direct Outs on the board and into PT via my BLA modded 002R and a Digimax FS(ADAT).

My main concern is how to most efficiently utilize the console and Pro Tools for Headphone mixes during overdubs?? I plan on using the Aux sends and Aux outs (pre Fader) for "in-line" cue/headphone mixes.... Does this seem practical?

Any thoughts or insight would be greatly appreciated.

I suppose it depends on how you like to work, but for me I would use the aux sends on the console for your headphone mixes. Having the level for the vocal (or whatever) in the headphones at your fingertips as opposed to having to mouse to a send fader in PT would make a big difference. Enjoy the console!!

Wouldn't you want to go straight into the convertors with those preamps or will it be a problem with software monitoring?

When I use other pre amps i plan on going out the insert of that channel (on the ATB) so that I am not going through the entire Channel's circuitry. The Insert is before the EQ, AUX, and fader. There are probably going to be times when i do want to bypass the board all together during tracking and I will just go directly into the box.

Thanks for the replies so far guys.... much appreciated.

Patch bay dude.

Couple hundred bucks, couple days designing, installing. You will totally dig having the flexibility and expandability, trust me.

This guy started a thread about a similar ATB/DAW question:

Help me with my first Patchbay setup?!

Have fun!

Great suggestion. I have every hole in the studio on the patchbays and it makes life so much easier.

Yeah... I'm definitely getting a patchbay in the near future. But for the time being I just want to get my head wrapped around the most efficient (and useful) routing for headphone cues using the console. Thanks for the suggestion and I will check out the thread in a sec.

Cheers
