| Gear nut | fireface 400 vs fireface 800 very different tech specifications!!! For the purpose of convenience, here are the actual converter specs and frequency ratings for the two devices. Obviously the FF800 is better on "paper". But what, if any, audible differences are there in reality ?? FF400: Dynamic range AD: 110 dB RMS unweighted, 113 dBA THD AD: < -100 dB (< 0.001 %) THD+N AD: < -98 dB (< 0.0012 %) Crosstalk AD: > 110 dB Dynamic range DA: 110 dB RMS unweighted, 113 dBA (unmuted) THD DA: -100 dB (0.001 %) THD+N DA: -96 dB (0.0015 %) Crosstalk DA: > 110 dB Frequency response AD/DA, -0.1 dB: 5 Hz - 20.4 kHz (sf 44.1 kHz) Frequency response AD/DA, -0.5 dB: 1 Hz - 43.3 kHz (sf 96 kHz) Frequency response AD/DA, -1 dB: 1 Hz - 80 kHz (sf 192 kHz) **************** FF800: Dynamic range AD: 109 dB RMS unweighted, 112 dBA THD AD: < -110 dB (< 0.00032 %) THD+N AD: < -104 dB (< 0.00063 %) Crosstalk AD: > 110 dB Dynamic range DA: 116 dB RMS unweighted, 119 dBA (unmuted) THD DA: < -103 dB (< 0.0007 %) THD+N DA: < -100 dB (< 0.001 %) Crosstalk DA: > 110 dB Frequency response AD/DA, -0.1 dB: 5 Hz - 21,5 kHz (sf 48 kHz) (NOTE: 48kHz) Frequency response AD/DA, -0.5 dB: < 5 Hz - 43.5 kHz (sf 96 kHz) Frequency response AD/DA, -1 dB: < 5 Hz - 70 kHz (sf 192 kHz) thanks Alessandro. |

| Do a search, it has been discussed before... But for short, no...the FF400 does not sound inferior to the FF800. (we've got both...) The FF400 uses a combined AD/DA chip instead of a set of 2 chips in the FF800, hence the different specs. in a way the FF400 as being a newer design has some "improvements" over the FF800...Slightly better analog inputs and pres etc...Anyway to my hears they sound identical..Good stuff for the price, solid driver and great discrete software mixer. |
