Thread Starter | Why is the MC77 more versatile than the 1176? Hey slutz... I read in two posts from different members that the MC77 is more versatile than the 1176, but I couldn't find any explanation why. Anyone would share...? |

| Because the 77 has a sidechain input which the 1176 doesn't (unless it was modded), and you can link 77's without the need for the stereo adapter, which the 1176 needs (and it runs on a battery which is a pain). Which one sounds better is a matter of personal taste..... |

| Also, MC77 have bypass button, so you can A/B and check WTF you are really doing... The Ua, don´t.

| Lives for gear | no need for bypass most times ... just listen ... listen ... thank you mr. lennon or pull the patch cables ... and btw to much A/B ing is bad for the soul ... gut feelings ... premonitions ... whatever you would like to call it ... go with these first impressions ... just my .02 and this is suppose to be at least a little fun ... cheers john |

| It's not more "flexible", it's more useful. The MC-77 is like walking off of 45th St. in NYC on a fine October morning in 1977 into Record Plant Studios... the current black thing that sports the numbers 1176 is a modern miscreation that bears little resemblence to an 1176LN of the same era. The MC-77 has "the sound" the recreation has "the look" [and way better marketing!!]. Decide with your ears, not with your eyes and you'll make the right choice every time. Peace.

Thread Starter | Thanks for all the replies so far. Fletcher, I do appreciate your post. May I ask you however, why don't you carry Universal Audio? You have such a long list of juicy brands in your shop... Why not UA too? - considering it's one of the lengendary ones; I'm just curious... |

| I think his post answers the question? Fletcher seems to be saying UA current stuff has the look but not the sound. |

Besides, there could be reasons other than sound for him not to carry UA (which he may or may not wish to approach in a public forum). The way I understand the pro audio market (someone may correct me if I'm wrong) is like this: there are three main types of dealers - those who sell just a couple of brands and kind of stay very loyal to them; those who sell everything they can, whatever it is (Weiss, Behringer, etc); and those who sell as many 'good' brands as possible. As I see it, Mercenary falls in the last category. So, since UA does have 'good' products in my opinion (and on top of that, it's an old brand), I was just wondering why...

True indeed. Heh...even the Purple MC76 PLUG-IN sounds more like an 1176 than its Bomb Factory equivalent.
