Blizzard in Ohio

Socked in,sessions cancelled, 16 hours of free time and I mean really free time. So maybe the engineer(and I use that term loosely) becomes a musician again for a night or two. So involved recording other people that I haven't left anytime for myself. I'm sure there are others with the same situation. Maybe a good time to write a new tune, there is a feeling when your totally isolated (physicaly) that lends itself to writing. Well I hope anyway. Just wanted to share my thoughts on a snowier than hell evening.

Well, they're calling it a blizzard here in Tennessee too. 2 to 4 inches expected. Having grown up in Connecticut, all I can say is: What a bunch of panty wastes! I'm going cross country skiing at sun up, if I can help it.

I'm in Cincinnati for the week visiting my folks and we are getting a ton of snow. Go figure, I got sick last night/this morning so I'm not physically able to do anything myself. I think we are expecting at least 11 inches of snow, up to 14 in my area, so I probably won't be going anywhere tomorrow.

I'd love to do some recording myself but my gear is back in Tennessee, so I just practice/wrote some parts for my band's music.

Oh, I also made a wish list of things I want to buy for the new studio space I'm moving into on Monday, hopefully with the money I make from it. Vintech 273, Universal Audio LA-610 to replace my M610, Soundelux U195, either a AEA R92 (recommend by Wes and Peter at AEA) or R84 (recommend by just about every thread about the two on this board), and maybe another Chandler Germanium since I sold mine to pay for other gear lust.

Were supposed to get close to 70 cm here. Did an afternoon session, but I dont think I will have much more work for the next couple days.... Oh well. Time to break out a bottle of wine, and catch up on some reading!

15" total expected here in Dayton, OH. Stocked the fridge with cold ones and cupboard with Ravioli and pretzels earlier.

Doing the same as one poster at the moment - getting my "to get" list together... and putting together a gear inventory program. Gonna get to tracking shortly.

Incidently - the gear inventory program I'm building, I'm setting up to keep a quick, online inventory of my gear, whether it's here, my rehearsal studio, or elsewhere. Also with current value and serials. When complete, all the categories and such will be able to be custom created from a user interface -

if anyone would want such a program to use - you're welcome to to the files to upload to your server, nothing wanted in return -

This is what the basic inventory list will look like:

~ big sky studios :: gear list ~

Again, you can create your own categories and such, export to a spreadsheet (which I use to give to my insurance company and my wife - so in the event of my early demise - she knows what I have, where it's located and a rough value). I also have another 2nd tier for "projected purchases" that prioritizes the purchases and such.... anyway - just PM me if you want the application - i'll help you get it setup. I will be password secured.

Ok, yeah - I know I need to redo my website too....

Ok - time to crack a cold one.

It's not too awful up here in Cleveland. Just enough to make things cold and unsafe. It is mostly died down where I live at (west of Cleveland in the 'burbs). I might go shovel the snow now that it finally trailed off a bit.

Yeah... I'm in Swohio, too. Just east of Cincinnati. I'm gonna get me a beverege here in a bit and set to untangling cables, organizing the mic locker and the like... I'll think of it as a bit of pre-Spring cleaning.

I'm chilling out here in Cincinnati (Clifton) having a brew, listening to classic tunes, wasting time on the net. I took a snow day, did some lite recording stuff. Big snow is due to come after midnight. We'll see.

What is it about alcohol and snow days?

I'm in New Philadelphia, Ohio and we've got about 5 or 6 inches of snow right now. It's still just pouring down with 10 to 15 inches expected!

The studio is warm and toasty, however!!!

Yep, my fiance and I are in PA visiting her sister and touring NYC, I have family in Louisville (thats where i'm from) I'm not sure if we are going to take 71 through or go through VA, I guess it depends on how the roads are....

Yeah, just another day on the roads....except that in TN even if there isn't any snow there, but is within 200 miles people will be freaking out driving 35mph on the highway on their way back from buying every last piece of bread and gallon of milk from wal-mart. It's a state of emergency!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually Nashville got kinda hammered last night(for tennessee) I've got just over 6 inches in my Yard right now and it's still snowing. It don't bother me much, but some of these people are scary in the snow. I was on my way downtown last night for a gig, doin about 20-25 mph on 8th ave s. and some moron goes flyin by in a Cherokee doing about 40-50 mph, he tried to stop at a light, slid right through, did a 180 and gently came to a stop against a telephone poll. Idiots. The funny thing is that I stopped the grocery about 3 am on the way home. No bread, no milk and no frozen pizzas. This crap will be melted in 2 days, and people around here think its the damn apocolypse.

cheers
g

Yeah, I grew up in Tennessee, and there is a special breed of people who apprentely wait for snowstorms just so they can go wreck their (parents) sport utes. People are a wee bit smarter about that sort of thing here in Ohio.

Wow, six inches in Nashville? I heard like 2-4 inches, that is a lot of Tennessee.

I had a gig cancelled due to snow. Not too upset since they will just reschedule for another date and I was paid in full up front!

Not happy about shoveling 1-1.5 feet of snow from my drive way just to get to blockbuster.
