| Hey buds. First post after endless lurking. Ok I already know that we are speaking of three different price points starting at the Mojave and working down, but for VOCALS mostly, which of these three would you buy and why? Gracias amigos! ![]()

| Gear nut | I own 2 Sputniks and love them quite a bit. I haven't tried either of the other mics, but the Sputniks won't make your source sound bad as long as your source sounds good in the first place. Any way you can get your hands on them to try out? That will really be the best way to test and see what sound you prefer on yours or other vocals. In comparison with an old u87 and an m147 it held it's own, but wasn't right for that vocalist/song, (u87 won out here.) I will continue trying it on all sorts of sources, but I got the pair for drum OH. |

| I just bought a CV 12 last month, only had one chance to flirt with it so far since I'm not doing any tracking at the moment. I used it on a guitar vocal experiment, wound up using it on guitar because the male vocalist has a verrrrry edgy voice, and it tended to accentuate that. On the appropriate voice, I could see it being great, but it's not one of those mics (and which one is?) that will sound great for every vocal. It was truly amazing on acoustic, however. |

| river - Did you find the CV-12 noisy? I tried one and found it unusable on some sources because of the noise level. Just wondering if the one I tried was typical or just a bad tube maybe? jim |

| after reading as much as has been posted here, the Avant seems to be slipping to the bottom of the list of these three. ![]()

| Gear nut | i got 2 of the cv-12 mics... for the price (1k for the pair), i think they are pretty kick ass... didnt find them noisy. acoustic guitar sounded awesome... cello, violin and viola sounded great. vocals sounded big and open. drum overheads sounded great, as well as rooms. i haven't had a chance to swap out the tubes yet.. i have not played with the other 2 mics, so i can't comment on them. peace beau |
