Thread Starter | 002 troubles
Crazy business last Monday night for me. I was tracking audio for a TV show at a local club and PT would not recognize my 002. I had used it Sunday night with no issues. After going through multiple firewires and trying a buddies mac book that's identical to mine it still wouldn't see it. So I fly back to the studio and grab our B room 002 and its the same thing. So I have 2 002's that aren't recognized by 2 separate mac's. I have reloaded PT on both machines. My Mbox's run with no issue. Any ideas?

maybe some more specifics? You launch PTLE and it says "Hardware not found" or the 002 wont power.. or.. etc etc etc Did you try replacing the cable? |

I'm getting the "hardware not found" message. I have been through 8 firewire cables.

Its the "Power Harness". This is a known issue with 002's. Authorized Digi repair centers will repair this in or out of the warranty period for no cost. You can also contact Digi Tech Support and they will send you the replacement Power Harness if you feel comfortable opening up the 002 and replacing it yourself. |

So something caused the power harness to fail on both 002's?

| Unfortunatley, this is a known issue that digi wont fix. They will send you a power harness with instruction on how to install it.

I've seen this exact issue a lot with 002's, itis always the Power Harness. One of the most common signals is the little green led near the FireWire cable connection on the back of the 002 is either blinking or not illuminated at all. I have seen the green light on solid too and still the 002 is not recognized and the power harness is the issue, but this is very rare. My understanding from the last time I spoke to a friend who runs an authorized Digidesign Repair Center is that Digidesign will cover the parts for this repair even out of warranty. However shipping and labor costs would still be the responsibility of the customer. |

The green led comes on on both 002's when the firewire is connected.

I'm on the phone with Digi right this minute! Turns out if your Digi's serial number ends with A-F is could be the harness issue (which they will fix for free) but if it ends in G then your problem is elsewhere. I have one that ends in "G", which they make me call the Pro Access line for. ![]() Will update with progress...

The power harness replacement is a quick and painless procedure. Hopefully that's your problem, you'll be back in business in no time.

doesn't sound like the power harness. if your 002 is not able to keep a constant clock, like the light keeps blinking and making noises on the interface sample rate readout, this is more likely that issue. What operating system? A friend of mine just went to leapord, PT wouldn'lt see his 002 with 7.3.1. he updated to 7.4, and then it worked great. |

So after calling the Pro Access line, it looks like it might be the circuitry surrounding the firewire chip. I could either send it to Digi for a $350, or attempt to fix it myself. The tech said there's often a resistor that blows on the firewire chip's board--I aint payin anyone $350 to replace a resistor for me! dfegad Digi! Looks like I'm taking the lid off.... |

Tim When you get your 002r fixed we need to A/B our units. My 002r has the black lion audio tweakhead mod. I'd like to compare them. Your bestest buddy, Rob W ps I don't like to be tickled from behind. |
