It is a Rock / Pop album. Somewhere along the lines of Something Corporate, Dashboard Confessional, Howie Day, John Mayer, etc.

Just give us a rough mix that we can hear the music style....

So yes I would mix one too for free if the music is well arranged and keeps me grooving....

Here is a rough mix in mp3 at 192 kbps. This is not my best song, but is the first one I started to mix...and shortly after realized how hard it was going to be to mix my own stuff.

Mix really isn't that bad. the guitar is really really wide. the vox are really low when the the music comes up. I think some volume automation would do you wonders. Do you have a session up yet? I have some cool ideas for it. If you are sending sessions out PM me.

Yeah it's not bad, but I have done better and I have not found the sound I am looking for yet. I can usually get the guitars even wider than this, but am struggling a bit with this song. This was my 5th revision of this damn song! Thanks for the comment and I will let everyone know when I post the files.

I had a listen to the song and I think the mix is good. I agree with the poster who said that the vocals need to lift when the chorus kicks in. I personally think that a higher backing vocal here could achieve this (in addition to some volume automation). Just keep writing and recording - you're young, you'll get there!

Not a horrible mix, but I'm pretty confident that I can improve on that. Honestly, the drum timing probaby bothers me more than anything else. If you can get it uploaded, I can work on it today, but otherwise, I'll have to wait until Friday.

Hey! I can't upload it until either tonight or tomorrow...sorry. What is bothering you about the drum timing? Just curious.

So i also think it is not that bad as you told us.
I miss more action in the sides... i do not know the English term for it.

The mix is not bad so you will get there.
I miss some highs on the lead vocals also i think the sound is a little muddy.
Behind the speakers I guess.

But the overall balance is good.

Yes. Some of my major problems with this are I can't get things to open up and go to the sides more, and I cannot get the vocal to shine through without sounding either honky or tinny and brittle. I think if I can get it to open up and spread out like I am wanting, the mud may clear up a bit. The guitars and vocal are my biggest problems right now.

Send a message via MSN to danasti
How many separate tracks in this song? - I might have a go if I have some time this week. So you can check it out...

So here we come closer to what your problem is.
And I tell you it is not that difficult as you might think.

But to write about this it would be more easy to phone via skype.

Early snares, laggy kicks, rushed hi-hat, sloppy fills. That stuff bothers me more than the mixing for sure. I think if you just brought the bass down, your vocs and guitars would shine more.

Thanks just curious. They way I recorded was to play an acoustic guitar and sing, then go back and put drums to that. It would have been tighter had I done it the opposite way with drums first, but when you are playing every instrument and write the song on the guitar, it is hard to do that. I wanted to get the song out on the guitar then come up with drum parts. Thanks for the comments. I will have it uploaded within a day or so for download.

was gonna say the same - bass down, vocal up & you'd be halfway there

Yes the half way but I guess he wants have a good relationship between mid and side signals. For my ears the mix is sounding a little behind the speakers but I can not put the finger in the whole......

He wants to have a broad mix without sounding to much covered by reverb and delays. One headline would be "Beatles Paning" L M R...
Another one comes to mind M/S technique during recording: Mid/Side stereophony

Understanding the MS principle helped me a lot to get a good balance between mid and sides in mixing.
Another idea is mixing with a Goniometer at side.
A big fat sausage in the Gonimeter also means a big fat mix.

Your mix DOES need serious work. Cool stuff though. Reminds me of Something Corporate.

I agree. And thanks for the compliment. I love the sound of their album "North" and would like to achieve a similar sound, just not there yet.
