apogee symphony system or PTHD2

this query relates more to differences in working with outboard stuff,
comps, eqs, pres, summing devices ect...

does symphony or rather logic8 allow for hardware inserts without delay
or latency?
are there any users of symphony who work this way?
(inserting outboard hardware) that might be willing to share their experience
with this setup
specifically within logic

i know that PT HD is touted for just this particular feature and i would be willing to
consider it, its just that i am more of a logic head and feel warm and comfy
working with it.

having said all that, i am openminded about any system that will allow me to
go in and out of the box with the minimum of hassle.

so, gents and ladies
your help, insights would be greatly appreciated

Good news for you.............
You also can use PT HD with Logic 8 it is TDM Ready...

PT HD is much more expensive instead of using apogee.

At the time I have the same Problem to bound in my hardware in logic 8 without spending 20k for PT HD. I know there is a way to bound it in without latency probs...

On the mix bus I made good experience with the logic I/O Plug In it is very easy with it to put a outboard compressor on the mix bus.

I think there must be a way to measure the latency of the different outboards and to compensate for it manually like in PT LE!!

Haven't found that way yet but would be pleased to read more about a solution too....

you can use nuendo4 with symphony, full latency compensation of external gear, high class features etc. it runs well along symphony systems

or you measure the (fixed) values in samples for I/O plugin in Logic8 and use compensated external gear within logic.
for this purpose soon a plug in to measur the latency in samples from within logic environment will be available...

also Live7 has compensation features - in general therms using external gear within various hosts is possible these days so choose the host you prefer most....

only exception is PT HD hardware used within Logic8, this combo is lacking compensation features and doesn't offer possibilities to easy compensate...

Me love me Pro Tools ...

Whatever you're comfortable with though... Learn the system so it becomes second nature and you don't have to think about equipment or software.

Just think music.

Don't be too optimistic, this board has more than one hundred threads about Apogee Symphony already - including many posts comparing Symphony with PTHD!

+1

I'm running Nuendo 4 on a Mac Pro with Symphony and it works perfectly. It's an amazing system.
