Nice to see that Purple used the Biz style knobs with the chrome trim for everything. I'm currently waiting on a few pieces but will post a pic soon.

Not much has changed since I last posted my rack pics - still have two open slots:

But... I did get all of the internal wiring, snake, and patch panels done.

So Pan, does this count??? It is "500 series" format.

Maybe I should call it the "Dinner Bucket"?

Still got some slots to fill...

You have too many EQ's. You need to send me a couple to fill the empty slots in my rack.

Those pics make me sick with gear slut lust -

I'm jealous of course...

i just recently purchased the buzz & purple eq's to add some different 'flavors' while mixing, but must admit i have not used them enough to make a good comparison to the api's. my initial impressions are that they are useful and musical, but not as versatile or 'vibrant' as the api's. my typical mixing setup (for rock songs) has the api 560's on kick & snare and the 550b's on lead vox & bass.

Sounds great. I used it on bass guitar and vox over the weekend. I haven't used any other analog comp so I can't really compare it, but it made stuff sit in the mix very well. Get's colored the harder you slam it. I want to get a second for stereo drum room duties.

And the shipping case was the best. One of those old military ammo boxes!

I see the bulk of you are using the API racks. Are you finding that the talk of poor noise specs, modules not fitting, etc. are no longer (or maybe never were) applicable?

I'm going to be jumping on the wagon very soon, and am weighing my racking options. I'm leaning more towards the Averill or Purple, but the cost of the API 6-spacer is more attractive.

thanks,

ryan

Talk of "poor noise specs from having the power supply integrated into the box" is exactly that..."talk". I haven't found any noticable difference by switching from a BAE 6 slot with separate PSU to a new API 600b. As far as the fit and finish is concerned, I found the API better than the BAE. It is also more portable. On the flip side , the BAE PSU is able to power 2 boxes and has hard wired sockets insteads of circuit boards for ease of servicing but those are the only advantages as far as I see.

I would 100% go with the purple. As the format evolves so must the racks.

The API and BAE work well and fine I'm sure (I've had no problem with my lunchbox but I haven't had it fully packed NOR have I tested any others), but Purple has taken the next step with their extra output in the back. Developers will notice this and there WILL be new units that utilize this.

if i buy a rack it sure will be purple! in the meantime i'm happy with my lunchbox. it just works. the only module i wouldn't buy is a germ and even they seem to work if you place them far from the psu.

Here's my modest rig. I should fill those last 2 slots, but will have to wait a bit. I'm still interested in comps, and don't want any more pre's, tho a pr of 512's might be temptiing...
