Such a versatile EQ. I love that the High band goes to 25khz, great for adding subtle air without being "bright".

I really like mine. I have used it for vocals, overheads, acoustic guitar, and as a simple HP/LP filter. It is easy to use and sounds better (with much less work) than software devices of the same kind. The filter function is very handy and sounds very smooth. The Hi Frequency limiter is very nifty as a subtle warming tool. I'm very excited for my second unit so I can chain them together and do stereo.

Crankitup,

Are you digging the variable impedance on the Juggernaut? I've got API, SSL, and UA pres, but i'm really interested in gaining some pres with this feature.

What other pres do you have and how are the Juggernauts gelling with them?

Your lunchbox looks great. I'm going to have to post mine.

God Bless...

The variable impedance is a godsend! I haven't had the chance to directly compare it to API, SSL, or UA, but I can confidently say that I am easily more impressed with the Juggernauts than API or UA. I use an SE Electronics Z5600 (not the greatest, I know) for vocals, and I found the higher impedance sounded boxy, but when I starved the input at 300 ohms it took on a really nice quality (with the iron input transformer, nickel output transformer, and +THD button engaged - I found this to be a very neve-ish setting, someone correct me if I'm wrong). This setting also works really well for that pinched distortion sound on guitars (good for pop punk or modern rock). When I cranked up the impedance, I noticed that everything gets a lot fatter, huge actually. I do mostly indie, pop, and electro, so I'm loving the tones I'm getting. They are beautiful preamps, I'm really tempted to get two more ! You should definitely pick at least one up if you have an empty slot... or get a new lunchbox.

My pair is from the original run of face plates he had done which were black and which I don't believe there are any more. You may be able to speak to Tony Belmont about ordering a black pair since I believe he was going to do a special order at one point.

PS: You'll notice that the black ones I have are the only ones with the logo and MA5 written in red like the E27 and the rest of the writing in white . All the other colors have white writing only.
We have a limited number of black faceplates available for MA5 orders now. If anyone wants a black unit, they can just specify that when ordering and we'll make sure they get it in black... until they're all gone!

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

Thanks Conor....

Nice to hear some more feedback. I think the variable impedance might be the deciding factor.
I've been eye-ing the Juggernaut or Shadow Hills GAMA. I need to get both to demo soon though. Maybe one of each, who knows.

Appreciate the detailed response......

take care,

Nickola

I can't decide between the Mono Gama, another Juggernaut, 512c, or MA5... maybe I'll get all of them! How does the Mono Gama compare to the juggernaut? Maybe a pair of juggs is enough... or maybe not... I've yet to try the juggernauts on drums, but I can imagine that they would sound amazing on anything

chandler pre

Also... has anyone tried using the 500 series germanium pre with a lunchbox? I'm a bit skeptical about the fact that it "doesn't work" when housed near the power supply I feel like you could just put 1 or 2 at the opposite end of your lunchbox...

It's all on loan, and I chose the Great River, so my rack is going to look exactly the same as the one previously posted!
