My lunch box has a whole 1 (one) API 512c, but I do have 5 blank panels.
Gotta count for something?
Here is my lunchbox along with Stu's at my studio about a month ago.
Something nice to look at at least???

Thanks guys, so far I really like and enjoy the anamod! It may seem a cliche but I'll type it anyway: don't be fooled by it's size, it has a big sound! One of the most exciting modules in the 500 series format... IMO.

GR->Anamod->E27 is a nice chain on many things!

Looking to get another box soon and start something up, maybe some MA5's and Gamas, or comps, or just more DIYs. Who knows. Too much gear to think about I go stir crazy.

That's mine, Ian. And thank you for making it. I've been using it with subtler settings, and really digging it - kind of a pseudo-tape saturation effect. I need to update my pic this weekend.

Seriously keep your eye on the classifieds here on gearslutz. Lunchbox gear on sale there all the time, including now. Yesterday saw 2 ma5, 2 komits, and 2 purple actions as well as the 6 space lunchbox. Another one selling a derr-esser. Saw a buzz essence just sell for $700 yesterday (that's $400 off the new price). Just keep looking, you can find some good deals. No one is making crap 500 pre's right now. You can hardly go wrong.

I use the MA5s to record acoustic guitar with my KM84s and love it every time. They're amazing on voice as well. I promise you'll love it.

Seriously, now i have only KM84 & TLM170, GR MP-1NV, Orpheus pre and empty BAE-6 500 which need one or two pres (500series) for steel acoustic Gtr mainly. (If there is one working on Vox too, then i would be very happy but mainly Ack Gtr.)

I'm greatful for all advice.

Only 500 series spec (API) fits. Telefunken not. Helios not (although a 500 series is in the works), Neve not, wunder not, etc., etc.

That being said, there is a HUGE selection of 500 series gear available.

Advantage is space savings....you can get a lot of gear in a small space. Some small $$ savings since the gear has no power supplies built in (it's in the rack), and then the reason I got a 500 series lunchbox---Some gear is only made in the 500 series format (Anamod AM660, Derresser, Level or, etc.).

I am trying to put a picture on Gearslutz for the first time. Here is my rack, I am glad it is full as I have less of a compulsion to fill it. I do have an empty lunchbox but I think that will be for comps and EQs.

dido!
has mentioned the Helios is in the works as well as Electrodyne, and if you want Neve their are several option that are amazing ( IMHO ).
and don't be surprised as others get involved.

Emfrank 72,
Between the P-1, MP-500nv and MA-5, out of curiosity, which do you prefer for pop/rock male vocals?
Thanks in advance for your response.

Pachyderm Rack

Longtime lurker, first post. Love this thread.

Here is a rack I put together for a recent 8 day lockout at Pachyderm, MN.

Roll Music made a strong showing. Super Stereo Compressor on Acoustic with API 553's. and drum bus and 2 bus and piano... Really diggin' their 500 series tube pre. Used the Tubules on bass, vocals, violin. Tube/Iron thick and creamy. Very nice.

Anamods are on loan from Dan Wilson. They are great. Squishy goodness. I've used a few real ones. These are easier to carry.

Also 550A's for Kick/Snr/Mando and a 560 for Hihat and misc. I'll post a photo of the stuff I didn't bring later.

cheers,

tom

Roll vs. Lachapelle 500 series tube preamps

Anyone tried both? I've got elixir, ma5 and jugg. The only thing missing is a great tube pre. Anyone compared the two. I'd love it if the Roll is just as good since it only takes up one slot!

Bought the ma5 mainly for vocals, and haven't tried it yet on a.g.. The jugg and the elixir are very close on ac. guit., but I'd give a slight edge to the elixir. It just has a clear, pristine sound that gives it that wow factor. We'll be trying the ma5 on a.g. soon. I know lots of people love it there.
