We're doing some moving and spring cleaning, so not everything is in the racks, but I just wanted to say that we joined the MA5 club today—two red ones, in fact. Only had a moment this morning to try them out (on some male vocals), but I liked what I heard.

I will be joining the club today. Though, of course, since I'm sending out heavy 'want it now' vibes, the UPS Network is picking up those signals and automatically routing the truck by the longest route possible so as to delay delivery.

I've already got a 500-NV and P-1 here. They arrived over the last two days. I'm waiting for the lunchbox itself to arrive so that I can put them to use. So far I've just had them sitting up there on the desk and have been making guitar sounds with my mouth, and they sound great so far like that.

Some pretty solid choices I'd say. Those are some pretty expensive paper weights though!

And it's finally here. I feel like Gollum finally getting The Ring again. I've been studioless for almost a week because I sold my LA-610 to make this move and have been studioless. So it's going to be a cool toy weekend. I also got a Tranzport, now that I've got the lunchbox, so that I can be portable and record in various places in the apartment to get different sounds (like the kitchen or bathroom.) Some of the best ideas in history have come to people while sitting on the toilet, so why not some of the best music as well?

And it's such a wee thing. It's strange that we should suffer so much for such a small thing. When you lust for this stuff so much, I guess it starts to grow in size in your mind and you expect it to be bigger than it is.

I just did my first experiments, starting with bass. The P-1 is a GREAT bass DI for rock bass, most definitely. That forward mid and upper mid type of sound is great. You can roll off the highs substantially and get rid of all of the rattle and still have plenty of presence for rock. With just a limiter to handles the peakiness, and an EQ to roll off the highs and lows and notch out a bit in the middle, it sounds great with my Jazz, with the mids knob pulled back a bit and the highs pushed up, and on the kneck pickup (without any amp sim, just the raw DI.)

Definitely nice. Now for some guitar DI experiements.

Spent some time with the GR last night on some guitar. VERY nice. I'm basically going back and re-tracking my last song completely, so that I can have a good point of comparison. The results so far are very gratifying. I really liked the LA-610, but I'm seeing now that it was not necessarily optimal for the specific type of stuff I'm doing.

I did a search but couldn't find a relative (enough) thread,so I figure this might be the right place to ask.

I want to head down the lunchbox track but in terms of buying components I'm not to sure how it works. I live in Australia so I assume I need to buy a lunchbox from here so that it works at 240V (Aussie voltage). Does that mean that after buying an Australian voltage lunchbox, I can buy 500 series gear from the states? Or do those components need to be Australian voltage also? I have no idea how PSU etc. work, and honestly I'd rather focus on the music anyway. Can someone help me out please?

Once you have the Lunchbox at 230V, you can buy modules from anywhere.

The API lunchbox (6 slot) has a switchable power supply. Not sure about the bigger API rack.

The Brent Averill unit can come configured for Aussie power if you ask them.

All 500 series modules take their power from the rack itself. So, as Tim said, once you're on the right mains voltage any module will work just fine.
