Trident/MTA 80b Dual Channel Opinions?

I've got an option on one of these units at a good price.
Therefore, I'd appreciate any info/opinions anyone might have on them.

I have one and it gets used pretty regularly. (This is the black 2U unit, right?)

The pres are a bit mediocre, but the eq is really good. Somehow it doesn't act like any other eq I have, and it seems pretty powerful. I use it a lot on dirt guitars, but it really suits some voices as well. Not a surgical eq, though.

What kind of price are you talking? I got mine new for £475 a few years back.

What's the point when you can get Dakings for cheap these days. Unless the price is really good, I would pass on them as MTA made some real crap. That A Range thing was a joke. I have no experience with the modules you are talking about but have lots of Trident and Daking stuff round here. Love it!

Hi Stuart,
The price is pretty similar to what you paid for yours. I thought this was a pretty fair price for 2 Trident channels...if they are indeed that.

Nice to hear about the EQ being cool, but what is it about the pres that you find mediocre? Could you liken them to any others?

Basically, I was hoping to add them as a bit of a colour EQ for working with alt.rock.indie bands. I'm probably just gonna go for them and sell them on if we disagree (me and the channels, not Stuart and I!).

If they are faithful to an 80 series mic amp and eq, then they are great sounding modules. My feeling though, is that they are not faithful to the original, and just using the name to try and sell product, which I believe didn't work anyway. A telling sign would be to open up the modules and see if there is an original Zutt transformer used on the mic pre's input.
