Thread Starter | "Headphone" suggestions needed for mixing (powered by DAC-1)
I need a set of fairly true headphones specifically for mixing purposes. Budget around $300 or under. From the search I did one of the following may be the ones: Extreme Isolation Ultrasone 650 or HFI-2000's. Sennheiser HD-280 Pro Lower end Grados, not sure which! Comments on any? Your favs? Does the DAC-1 have enough power so that I wouldn't be needing a separate amp? |

The new Sennheiser HD 650's are pretty amazing. Best imaging I have ever heard on a set of headphones. duaneadam |

The Grado 225's are in your price range The Extreme Isolation phones are great for keeping the click track out of the overhead mics but I don't consider them suitable for mixing. |

yes .. you can use the DAC-1 directly with a set of headphones and it's an amazing experience. However .... you do realise, you should not mix with headphones. It's not accurate in terms of real world. What's going to sound real good to you in the cans may give you quite a shock once it comes across a pair of speakers in any enviornment. You may get a bit lucky sometimes but let's just say the odds are not in your favor. You're better off getting even a cheap set of small monitors and using them at low volumn, if indeed that's why you're considering cans. If you can make it sound good on those .. and that is the acid test for most mixes ... there's a much better chance it will sound good on a majority of other speakers. Use the DAC-1 with cans to escape the the daily ground

Good to know the DAC-1 will do the job. EI are probably out of the scene. I'm still deciding and would like to hear from others.

Sorry didn't catch your price range first time I read your post Spiderdragon. I did find the Senn 650's new for just over $300 though. Have the 280 pros here also but to me they're not in the same league. Duaneadam |

The Ultrasone HFI-2000 is extremely detailed and smooth. I use them to check tracks and mixes plus - you can wear them for hours.

Ditto on the Grado 225s... and ditto on using cans to escape reality, not to accomplish it. |

I guess I narrowed it down to the Ultrasone HFI-2000, Senn 650 and the Grado 225. Now to pick one! |
