New KRK's...am I crazy???

OK... so with the understanding that it had been a long day... and the "envrionment" of a Guitar Center is not the most ideal scenario for review...

... but... I've been looking for a second pair of nearfields that are a bit more "budget" minded.... (used mainly for a b-room writing setup)....

I must say that I was shocked to find that the new KRK Rockit's (The 5" versions) were surprisingly good.... sure, a little bass-light because of the size... but I was left with the unexpected feeling that these puppies weren't too bad.... In fact, they could've been my first choice of all monitors on the wall all the way until I reached the Dynaudio BM6A's...
(now mind you, I absolutely abhor events, alesis, and mackie's.... but don't want to fork out another grand plus for the next tier of nearfields ie... BM6A's, F11's, or 1030A's....).

I'm going to check them out in a couple of other stores to make sure that I hadn't been smoking crack... but also wanted to see if any other gearslut folk have had a chance to check them out and offer their 2 cents...

Didn't get a chance to check out the V4's, but have heard fairly decent praise for those as well...

anybody else?

Take them home for a listen in your enviornment. The return policy is usually pretty good with that type of item ... from what I remember. You'll find out a lot faster.

I just love my KRk's V8. It's been 3 years mixing with them and no problems at all, just fun. Another day I had to mix a track in a home studio and they had a KRK V4 (4'' speaker). I did the mix and when I got into my studio and played it sounded very good.
Take them home and try it for yourself. I think you're gonna love it.

I have mixed feelings about the V8's. I have been using them for about 2 years now and I think that they took a very long time to get used to. I think they have too tight of a low end. For a long time I would double check my mixes on my home stereo and in the car and they would be way too bassy. Im talking from about 300hz down to 40hz. I have gotten used to them now and I think they are great but I was kinda disapointed at first and I wouldnt reccomend them to novice engineers.

Hi,

I work almost exclusiv on KRK Monitors.

But I use KRK Expose E8t. in the past I worked on KRK 9000b.

These are the only ones I want to work with from KRK. It's a bit funny, all the other monitors from KRK I can't work on. I heard the Rock and also the V Series including the V8. I thought "is this the same manufacturer" ?

But with the E8t's I found the stereo picture and the resolution/openess I was looking after.

I got those KRK Rokit 5 as my PC speakers and I love 'em so far. I've done one location recording with those. I wasn't that happy with 'em, but the room was not very good too,
So I'd give em a fair shake at your joint.

funny. I just bought a pair of the 5's to pre mix some stuff at home (cause our place is bbooked up)
I've got the Dyn bm6a's at the studio.

these little KRK's sound pretty darn cool. and the GC "rental policy" is gonna work just great!
I have about 3 weeks left....

I'd say check em out.

Rockit

...Rockit 5s here, too. They sound good...I wish I would have gotten 6s or 8s...but I added the 10" sub...problem solved. I am very pleased...

If you can, step up to the V6's, much better. The rockets are great for super budget no doubt, but if you plan on doing any mixing, you would be much happier with thier V series.

Rokit6's here. I like them much better than my previous Yamahas. My mixes translate really well with them. Better than most I've used in other studios in the past like JBL, NS10s, and some of the Mackies(don't remember which model). My room now is only minimally treated and I can still get a decent mix out with these things! Now, I just need the matching KRK sub!
