Vocal widening - fave boxes?

So , vocal widening.

So I understand mix engineers have been doing if for years. Spreading a vocal out in the stereo field using pitchshifters , delays and other things.

The Eventide H3000 is known for this , but what other devices are good?
Any more common hardware processors that can do this well?

For that sort of thing I just use software plug-ins - Any delay that has control over the left and right (I like the Sonitus R3 Ultrafunk) on 1 send and then the pitch effects (Waves etc) on another and blend to taste.
I figure this sort of processing is fine ITB.

Really? Not to be pedantic, but don't you mean the delay - the 15-80(with or without S)?

a short (<20ms) delay with a pitch up and down on each side is the usual way...or the voice doubler patch on the H3000.

If it's possible with the RMX16 (a reverb) would love to know how!

Got this one from Dave P, 2 yahama SPX 90's or 990's with both units input from the

same send. Mono source from each box panned left and right. Using the same chorus

type preset even with the same settings gives you a widening effect. Gets really

interesting when you start messing with different parameters on each box and even a

small time delay on one side.

dfegad easy to recreate in a computer and works amazingly well on backing vox.

Dear Oroz, I'm sure you are talking about the AMS "S-DMX" or "DMX-15-80", which IMHO is one of the best vocal widener in the world, the RMX16 is an amazing reverb, famous for it's ambience reverb and it's non linear "gate-reverb" used to dead in the 80's.

You can hear both units on any Phil Collins album too!

Also, you can get a nice widener with the micropitch shift on the Eventide Harmonizer series, H3000 seems to produce the best blend on vocals.

Best regards.

One of my favorite too.

This was my first Eventide, my father bought it in 1979 and it's still working.
I love it on vocals, it imparts a really nice 3d sound on vocals, just blend it behind the track and, but the stereo micro pitch shift trick works better with a H3000, you know, to spread the vocals on the stereo field.

I also have the H949, different tone and great results.

Best regards.

The UAD Dimension D plug-in works great for some extra width on vocals. Put it on a send and blend to taste. No obvious chourusing effects, just width. Only hassle is there is no mix-button (true to the hardware, but it would still be nice).
