Mackie MDR24

I have a project starting in room a using a Mackie MDR24. I've done some research, including searches on Gearslutz, regarding file transfers from Mackie to DAW (PC). I'll be mixing at my room so file transfer is imperative. My understanding is that the BIOS upgrade has been done.

Two things if you'd be so kind:

A) Do I understand correctly that files CAN be transferred from the Mackie to DAW via the broadcast wave files in writes if I have the correct removable drive? And software that is Braodcast wave compatable. If so what drive and drive bay need to be fitted to the Mackie?
I do have a removable drive bay in my machine BTW.

B) Most of the info was regarding the HDR and SDR models. What's the difference between these and the MDR?

The MDR is basically the HDR without a video card/GUI. I believe that broadcast .wav files are only available in the latest version of the MDR OS (1.3?) which can be downloaded from Mackie's site. Mackie has a forum for their hard disk recorders with a wealth of information from users & techs. Click the "Forums" button on Mackie's home page and do a search, or post a question. You might also want to download the HDR Technical reference PDF - pretty much everything in it also applies to the MDR (minus the GUI stuff, obviously).

P.S. Re: the drives - they are standard ATA HDs (32GB or less) mounted in a Lian Li RH58. You can pull the drive from the caddy and connect it to your IDE buss directly, if your removeable bay isn't compatible (but be aware that the drives are jumpered to 'master' in the MDR, you might need to switch them to slave or cable select in your 'puter).

Having gone from a SDR to Sonar about a million times, I love the BWF import. You won't have any problems providing they have the MDR updated.
