hardware. through an aux on the mixer, brought back on a return. It's blended with the dry vocal in cans only. I don't believe the aux returns transfer through the firewire, but if they do, just don't record the wet.

Sorry Peeder, I'll quit answering questions directed at you.

I'm really thinking about the Universal Audio SOLO/610... But, it would push my budget to the edge.

Certainly a solid way to go. Start checkin' out Craig's List daily, especially on drum kits and 57's...the more readily available stuff.

I've been checking craigslist, buyandsell, and the classifieds for months. Nobody records in this city, it's hard to find gear.

Yes the tc m350 is a hardware reverb ("outboard") and no aux returns don't get sent out the firewire card, so the reverb will not be printed. If you decide you want to print it, run its outputs into a couple of the channel strips instead of the aux return.

BTW responding to Rigg's post the RME is already off the list, because you're getting the 003, and I have never received any evidence that any mods on the 003 are beneficial. I would much rather get an upgraded preamp than 003 mods certainly. You will have 24 simultaneous inputs with the 1640/FW Card and the 003. Now if you want to get Pro Tools MPTK and skip Logic you can track into the Mackie Traktion 2 software that comes free with the Onyx FW Card, and then move the tracks into Pro Tools. So you don't need to buy Logic if you don't want to. But there are a lot of nice things about Logic and one hopes the bugs in it will all get fixed soon enough. One also hopes PTLE will get Automatic Delay Compensation and then we'll really have a competitive DAW market in this price range.

I do think that it's very possible the fact you are, as you claim, the only Logic house in town will get you a lot of business mixing and overdubbing onto Garageband projects. They are directly openable into Logic. So one or two of those gigs alone will pay the $500 for Logic. It's nice to be DAW-multilingual too.

Yeah, I agree. I'm trying my best to be literate with as many DAWs as I can, and eventually developing an adept knowledge of gear, plugins, etc. Knowledge is ammunition.
