| Lives for gear | closest distance for nearfields? Ive got a tiny space for my "studio" and I know low volume/less distance between the monitors and my ears give the room less chance to affect my mixing. The room is untreated and it might be a while before I get the funds to throw some foam up. How close before its too close?

| It depends on your monitors, normally the smaller they are the closer you can get. For example I've found the Adam S3A's to work good until 3-4 feet but not less... What monitors do you have ? |

| Check the setup instructions for the monitors you're considering. They usually have a triangulation diagram that shows the projection point for the field. It varies from design to design. jeff

| Lives for gear | I think it also depends on how wide the speakers are spaced....

| I usually try to space myself close to the same distance from the monitors as they are apart, or maybe just a little farther. My monitors are about 2-2.5' apart and I sit between 2.5 and 3.5' away from them. I may be doing it all wrong, but my mixes translate well and I'm comfortable with this arrangement. |

| Yeha, they're "supposed" to be the same distance from you as they are from each other. I've got KRK RP8's and their manual recommends an equilateral triangle with 1m sides roughly. The MOST important thing is making sure they are equal distances from each ear (distance from left ear to left speaker must be the same as the right speaker to right ear) |
