This Microphone Side Pre Amplifier provides state of the art performance in a small and rugged aluminum die-cast box (2 by 2.5 by 4.5 inches). Powered by a small wall transformer, the unit amplifies signal by up to 50dB gain. When in Phantom on position, it generates a super clean 48V-phantom power for condenser microphone applications.
Yeah but the last thing I need when micing a drum kit up is 8->15 wall warts running to all my mini-mic pres along with the cables! Seems like a nightmare. Couldn't we power the unit with phantom power?! I'm sure not - probably too much juice is needed. At the very least it needs a special cable that contains the audio and power that runs to a little box elsewhere - still a bad idea really.
