Side chain compression on reverb...what for?

I've heard of people using a side chained compressor on reverb before. What is this commonly used for? I tried playing around with this on vocal and snare with varied results.

for snare you can get it to explode by compressing the reverb return with the snare track, with some fiddling with the attack and release you can get the verb to kick up after the intial snare hit...finding the right release time is crucial, the attack should be damn fast as to not 'give away' the explosion.
I usually resort to using the predelay parameter on the reverb unit to achieve this "explosion" effect.
I'm sure there are many uses for sidechaining reverb return compression but that's what comes to mind...someone please enlighten all of us to some other techniques.

What about using it to de-ess the send to reverb on vocals?....to avoid that splashy sound......unless you want that, which some may do, i guess.

I just recently started to get more into this. I also adjust with the predelay for the "explosion" effect or "swell" if you will. Primarily on vocals (but duh, snare, hello, earth to Dan-O). Something like a pre-chorus or chorus which lends it self phrasing wise. I really like this type of ducking with delays as well. Things "pop" and have presence with a bit of movement. I'm lovin it.
