| Help recording kick drum without a "traditional" kick mic I'm doing a remote gig this weekend and I'll be forced to record a drum kit without any of my usual go to kick mics. The options will thus be: Neumann TLM103 Rode NT1A Rode NT2A Shure SM57 Shure SM58 AT3035 Will any of these cut it in a pinch or am I going to have to resort to laying in some kick samples to fill things out?

| The 57 or 58 are worth a crack. |

| Lives for gear | hell yeah. make them sh*** work son. lol 57 is nice, pull it away from the beater a LITTLE, push it to one side, and aim it towards the beater, this will help get more roundness but still click without al the traditional "ka-ram" of the 57. AT will definitely work in the exact same position. 3/4 of the way towards the beater head. 45degree angle towards the beater, nice and round, some nice roominess. (check it, you amay have a lot of bleed) the TLM could work in the same way,...BUT,... wouldn't you rather stick that on something else? like always use your ears, and check it first.

| Thanks for the tips! The mics I listed above are all extras and free for kick duties so no worries about using the 103s elsewhere...

| Lives for gear | cool. i'm actually kind of thinking the AT would be nicer than the TLM anyway. maybe try them both really quickly ot see which one you prefer? i'd side with the AT though. what kind of music and what type of kick are you hoping to achieve??

| oh yeah, definitely should mention this is for a slightly funky rock band... I'm looking for a nice deep yet well defined kick.
