TONELUX

I will be showing some interesting stuff at the AES show, since I am no longer with API. I will announce my distributer is a few days.

ToneLux Website

Going through a domain transfer, it should be up is a few days. Sorry. I will be making Eqs, Mic Pres, mixers, just about everything. I will have a new discrete op-amp, new transformer, etc. It will be very killer and affordable.

Paul had some drawings at Bonnaroo last month. Things are going fast, the last time we spoke he already has some prototypes close to done. I saw a press release somewhere. When I find it I'll post it.

-I got the release via email. I'll put it up soon.-

Here's a link to the release

From what Paul's told me, the new mic pre will have a tilt EQ in addition to being remote controlled via ethernet.

I'll have more as he gives up the info.

From the website:

"Paul Wolff has started a new company called TONELUX.
Promising a new direction in professional audio, TONELUX will introduce a new line of DISCRETE rack mountable audio products, including a Fully Parametric 4 band Equalizer, Remote Controlled Discrete Mic Preamp with a Direct Input and a special 1 knob EQ for the DI input, Stereo Mixer modules for DAW mixdowns, Surround Mixer modules for DAW mixdowns and the support modules to tie it all together. _
The New Modular Format will all fit into the same 3U rack, which will hold 16 modules in 19" of space. _Any module can be placed into any position and you can mix EQs, Mic Pre's and Mixer modules in the same rack. _The racks are linkable and will offer master control modules as well as many other modules to accent the line. _The entire line will be introduced at this year's AES show in San Francisco."

This sounds like a killer product line, i always loved the ideas behind the API 500/200 series and the 7600 series, seems he's taking it to another level!

The LUXurious TONE

"This sounds like a killer product line, i always loved the ideas behind the API 500/200 series and the 7600 series, seems he's taking it to another level!"

I am taking this to the next level. Since API is such a well known format of products, I am trying to put products in the gaps, so engineers have not just a choice, but a way of getting from here to there with some additional BEEF. For example, API makes the 550B, which is a selectable frequency 4 band EQ. A clone of that would be pointless, since it is done right (I guess I know that...), so a sweepable parametric is the logical EQ to make. Of course it will sound fatter than hell, and will sweeten any meal, it won't be a clone. I have always felt that if there are two of something, one of them isn't needed.

I am looking forward to the reaction of the industry with this. I promise you, IT WILL BE KILLER...

I will be posting pictures very soon, I have to get the first ones built. I am having many custom parts made to be able to do this right, including one of the coolest knobs you have ever seen.

I will keep you all posted. Send me your wish list. I'm trying to build a company based around the right stuff for the right reasons. If I get enough of the same requests, I will most likely make a product out of it. Of course, I will take all the credit and glory so it will make me seem even smarter than I look. But, after all, it's the recording industry and I'm just tryng to fit in...

Yeah, Paul was showing his knob to many at Bonnaroo last month. He even asked a girl to take his knob to John Alagia.

i was talking modules

might be too much Lux in the end tho: ToneLux PreLux could be overkill as name for the pre-amp module ;-)

This will be the gear for recording Lux Interior.

Somehow.. I always flash back to The Cramps when I see the word "lux". Great band. ... ok, sick band... It reminds me of seeing them live when I was in high school.. Left me messed up for a week, kinda like "The Deer Hunter" did.

Sorry.. tangent...

Best of luck to you, Paul!

Now someone is thinking!

SP1 is good. The problem with the ending with LUX versions, well, they might as well start with Mc...

The S could also be used to identify the pre as solid state, in the event that you would ever get the urge to introduce a tupe pre module

Just make sure the name has numbers--there was a good thread on the whole cute names versus numbers thing in audio. From what I got out of it, gear nerds love number combos. Somehow it just must sound better at conventions saying "1176 this or 1073 that," rather than "Oh, I love the new 'pipsqeek' on vocals!"

(but don't tell Eve Anna I said that:-)
