Names

How about the FAH-1, FAH-2 etc...

If you wonder what FAH stands for, read paul's posts again

Or there is also the DB-1 etc... DB stands for Dog's Bollocks of course

The 1st day that the web site was up, I could link to pages for the individual modules; not anymore.....wha' happened?

And how about the master modules?

Can input and master modules be mixed in a single chassis? For example, if I only need 8 inputs, can I have 8ea MX2 units and whatever master units in a single frame?
(the existing graphic shows 16 inputs modules in one frame and the master modules in a separate frame)

UNIVERSAL RACK

You will be able to mix and match any module in the rack. You could have 6 mic pres, 6 stereo modules, 2 eqs and the stereo master, etc.

I don't know about everyone else, but I would love to see stuff compatible with the osa and api racks. I know that I for one would be more likely to buy a couple of modules to pop in the rack that I already have as opposed to purchasing a new rack as well.

cloners

Please don't refer to any other manufacturers related to API stuff that have simply cloned their products. I do not and will not discuss. I have designed a complete product line from scratch, including 2 new discrete op-amps, ON MY OWN in a different form factor. It may compete, but it will not piggyback it's success in the designed products of others. These guys always come out with a mic pre because you can use someone's pre existing input transformer and output transformer, peel a label off a 2520 and put on tour own and attach a 25K reverse audio pot for gain and your cool.

So where's the equalizer? Where's the compressor or the noise gate? People like Millennia, Ear, Manley, GML and API designed their own stuff. The 2520 was there when I bought API, I designed the 2510 and there is one of each in every product we made. My new stuff will have different designs. When the cloners actually design something without stealing the design from someone who has paid for designing it, I will be part of the discussion.

They are the MP3 of engineers.

He wasn't saying that you should copy the preamps from API, he is refering to the RACK ARCHETECHTURE. he would like the rack to be compatible with the api. Those of us that have several rack systems that are only half full always wish that there are other things to put in them.

I personally have a half full DBX rack (900 series) and a half full api rack. ANOTHER half full rack just seems stupid, no matter how good the product.

Like I said, as long as you don't lump the cloners in with the rest of us, I will take your suggestions to heart. Let me get the modules launched, and we'll see about fitting them...

Umm, wouldn't that be part and parcel of the same thing, Paul? Choosing to be pin compatible with API's rack system, dbx's rack system or only your own racks seems to be a decision that needs to be made early on. If you build your modules so that they fit only in the rack that you also sell, you really can't go back and redesign the pinouts (and possibly the form factor) of your modules without either duplicating or throwing out a lot of work. And then you'd have to decide whether to make two different models of each module (to fit your rack or another rack), to abandon your original, or simply avoid making pin and form compatible modules.

You might also consider the form and pinouts used by the Millennia Mixing Suite.

Choose wisely, Obi Wan...

Meant no disrespect, nor did I mean to lump you in with OSA, API, or any other manufacturer. I was merely stating that I don't like buying an 6, 8, or 11 space rack when I really only want 2 or 4 channels of something that fits in it. It would be great to be able to fill up my lunchbox, as opposed to filling another rack up halfway. I'm not a tech, and I don't know what form factor compatibility would entail, I was just stating my opinion. In the end it wouldn't deter me from buying a product if I was set on it, but it could sway towards buying it because of the savings and convinience. I like what I see so far, and I'm excited to hear what the stuff you are working on sounds like.

From RX1 ( fast bike ) to 007 ( fast man ), about any token with numbers would be asociated already with something. Only question would be if it fit better or worse.

How about TFR1?
Sounds like a thing on its own and seems to go well with Tonelux.
It could be standing for "Transient Flying Raptor" and the only other association out there could be "Transferrin Receptor 1" (TfR1), an antibody. Antibody against bad sound in this case.

Ok, we know that the product line exists, are we gonna have to wait until AES to get all the details?

A comment regarding the "cloners" - but please don't take this as bait to start an argument. I just wanted to point out that they did perform one very useful service.

Up until very recently there were literally thousands of old 312 cards sitting around as the result of old API consoles being retired or stripped for 550 and 525 modules. Most small studio owners have neither the skills nor the free time to wire up these cards into fully functional mic preamps. A few enterprising folks took these cards and brought them back to life by mounting them in 500 series compatible modules and offering them for sale. API certainly wasn't going to "rescue" these orphaned cards, but it would have been crazy to landfill them. So a few guys made some money by taking leftover cards and turning them into very useful products. The only alternative was the trash heap - I can't see how that would have been a better alternative.

From the end user perspective, good quality preamps were made available at a fair cost from leftover parts that had no other viable use. I own both "legitimate" API products and also "rescued" 312 cards that were built into 500 series sized modules. API had already made it's profit on those 312 cards, their second life in 500 series sized modules just made good sense. Just my opinion, but probably shared by a lot of end users.

Point well made. At first a "recycled" 312 card maker was calling them his own, which was irritating in itself. After some "legal suggestion" that was changed to API 312 cards in a different package with a disclamer making that clear. That is fine. Others take the credit without passing it where it's due. Pulling a sticker off an API 2520 and replacing it with your own is special in deed.

To be honest, I really don't give a shit about them, it is all history to me. When Tonelux comes out, it will be fun again and I won't have to answer questions about the past.

I'm excited and I feel good about the way this stuff sounds, as do the few that have played with some of it.

this is the past
---------------------------------------------------
this is the furure.

How is everyone doing? Heard about Tonelux yet? It will be good stuff and very reasonably priced. Tune in...

The line sounds interesting. Will you by any chance offer a linear fader module as opposed to the rotary mixer modules?

off topic-
