Forssell Technologies FetCode Mic Preamp

I know that this is not a brand new piece of gear, but I have been demoing one recently and I thought some of you may be interested in it. I have had the opportunity to play with a lot of gear over the past couple of years and I have to say that the FetCode is one of the best sounding, best built preamps I have ever seen. Definitely worth a look. Thanks.

Well I'm pretty sure it's sold direct, so the price looks to be $2795, which for what you're getting is a steal.

I'm very curious (mainly because I'm searching for a stereo preamp right now). How would you describe it's sound?

The FetCode doesn't sound like any other preamp I have ever used. It's very musical, for lack of a better term. It's isn't very colored, but it's also not squeaky clean either. I was most impressed with the way it handled dynamics. I have used it on drum overheads, acoustic guitar, male and femal vocals, and piano with very good results. I hope that I'm not being too vague, but describing how a piece of gear sounds has never been my strong suit. I just know that it has sounded very good on every source I have tried it on. Thanks.

I had one here for a few days as well. I definitely liked it......I found it be very solid sounding. (I can't describe gear worth a durn either.)

I really, really enjoyed it on acoustic guitar.....the mids there were very nice and brought out the "wood" in the tone. I can often find a preamp that gives a nice sparkly/detailed top to acoustic guitar but rarely do I hear one that gets the midrange right sounding to my ear.

I didn't try it....but I from what I heard I don't think it would kick the GR-NV out of my top spot electric guitar preamp.

And yes it is quite a piece of workmanship. Could anchor a small yacht.

I've played with it as well - it really is an amazing sounding preamp. I want one.

Just curious if you compared it to anything say... a UA 2-610 or TG2.

Thanks,

Chris

No I did not compare it directly to either of those two units. I have experience with a lot of high end preamps but I don't really own many. Thanks.

The direct comparisons while I had it were to a Mercury M72, a Crane Song Flamingo, and my Great Rivers (MP2 and GR NV). I still want it. It did something that none of may other preamps do.

It's a transformerless design so you can pretty much assume it isn't going to be "vintage" in the least. If i'm not mistaken, the designer also did some designs for Millennia and it appears that it's a J-FET/triode hybrid which implies that there's going to probably be a little extra 2nd harmonic.
