Q about resale & how well some hi-end pres retain value

As an alternative to hiring i was thinking about buying some gear using for project and then resale. I was wondering how some pres compare in retaining value 1st to 2nd hand or even 2nd to 3d etc. Obviously they're all different beasts sonically but was particularly thinking about 4 channel stuff like:

API 3124
vintech 473
sebatron 4000e
anything else u can think of!

anyone had any experience to compare??

It's all about scarcity.

Most things lose 1/3 to half their value when they aren't brand new while they are still in production. After they go out of production products that are still very much in demand increase in value. A few things become trendy and skyrocket for a while but when they go out of fashion the value plummets and there is no predicting other than the fact that gear appearing in a photograph with the Beatles seems to drive the trendy market.

Seems to me, if you buy them used you'll be able to sell them for what you've got into them. You might even make money if you find someone desperate to get rid of something.
