your opinions...Avedis MA5 vs. API 512c PAIRED WITH Peluso VTB vs. Telefunken AK47

I'm curious what everyone thinks about the newer Avedis MA5 vs. the API 512c. I'm gettin a new pre soon and I'm curious what you like better. I like the 28k button on the MA5, it adds a nice little sparkle to the vocals...I'm using it with vocals mainly, guitar, drums ( room? )...Also, which mic around the 1,000-1,500 dollar range do you like the best (mainly for vocals but maybe some acoustic also) ... I've heard clips of the Telefunken AK47 and it sounds amazing compared to a lot of other mics I've heard in that price range...sits right in the center of the mix and doesn't take up too much space...Any other mics besides the peluso vtb or tele ak47 that you would like to suggest between 1,000 and 1,500 dollars? If you have an opinion on the pre-amp that would be great, but if you just have one on the mic or vice-versa then that's fine. Just want to know your opinions to help me get closer to buying a new pre/LDC. Thanks

- Jeff

If you are mainly doing vocals, the MA5 and the AK47 is a great combination. This is what I'm using lately.....I like it....lots

For that I'd go with an MA5 and Peluso P12

yeah I heard Lugo's shootout with the MA-5 and an ak47 and it sounded great... Lugo Shootout closed storage thread. there is a link to it. The MA-5 just the vocals sound so airy/crisp. I also liked the AK47 more than most of the other mics. Maybe even more than the u87 on that page. Still deciding though. Don't have money for a u87. I can put the MA5 in the API lunchbox right? or any other 500 series lunchbox?

since the ma5 is pretty new, i'm probably not going to find it used anywhere beisdes maybe the secondhand gear on gearslutz, right? Also, not really seeing many tele ak47s online. Anyone know of a place to look for these besides gearslutz, ebay, and vintage gear?

I don't think anyone with an MA5 is going to want to part with it. I've only heard clips and have a pair coming next week. Looking forward to using them!!

I got mine from Mercenary for $425. You could also get an A-Designs 500HR 1U 2-module chassis for @ $300. Then you'd have at least one more slot for an EQ or compressor.

I think if I got a lunchbox I would want 6 slots so I could always add another pre or 2 and then maybe eq / comp. I probably will just get it from mercenary...Anyone know where I can find any used Telefunken AK47s?
