| Gearslutz.com admin | Aardvarks question for London studio owners Registered: Mar 2003 Location: Moderatorville N.C. Okay Jules...How on earth does one do business in a place that is so expensive and so limited in terms of space, parking (hahaha) building codes as well as pure hell to get around in terms of deliveries and runners etc... I love London and have been a dozen times or so and even with the benefit of a borrowed flat it is insanely expensive. Here in Canada our most expensive cities fall short of the demanding financial burdens of London. What is the cost per square foot on decent space in the city center? How do you compete with shops outside the city or in other European markets? How do the cramped quarters of an old city affect desicions on renovating space and such? How do you avoid really long pub lunches? ( alright...a wee bit off topic....maybe) Is there a better place in the world to get Indian food?!!!!??? | Gearslutz.com admin | Good questions all. Okay Jules...How on earth does one do business in a place that is so expensive and so limited in terms of space, parking (hahaha) building codes as well as pure hell to get around in terms of deliveries and runners etc... **** It's diffficult beings a studio owner here is widely known as "financial suicide" I love London and have been a dozen times or so and even with the benefit of a borrowed flat it is insanely expensive. Here in Canada our most expensive cities fall short of the demanding financial burdens of London. **** It's known as miserable to live in - many folks simple dont 'go out' much - half of most peoples wages go on rent What is the cost per square foot on decent space in the city center? **** dunno I am on the outskirts and dont know my Sq ft / cost offhand How do you compete with shops outside the city or in other European markets? *** compete? Its a matter of survival, reputation. repeat custom and prayer How do the cramped quarters of an old city affect desicions on renovating space and such? *** massivly - I aint got no high celinged barn here, some of the folks out in the boonies in the USA have HUGE recording areas - more power to em! This is one EXPENCIVE city. My studio is, in essance, a 2 story hut in a backstreet. How do you avoid really long pub lunches? ( alright...a wee bit off topic....maybe) *** I dont drink at all - ever. Is there a better place in the world to get Indian food?!!!!??? ** Yes and no, some dishes I found better in Goa India, some not - I am going to eat Indian tonight and I know it will be better tasting than MANY places serving Indian food around the world. This country has had a VERY LOOOONG association with India, in fact the UK's favorite dish is Chicken Tikka Massala - and that is oficial! I can also reccomend the Vegitarian Tali at the ASHOK hotel in Mapsa, Goa India! Thanks for your interest in London perhaps fellow Londoners will chime in too... M8's ? |

| It´s funny that out of all formerly imperial and exploiting countries like GB and the Netherlands today are the friendliest places in Europe - to my knowledge - . ( Although Swedens Stockholm I believe is worth mentioning as well in this nice category.) Ruphus
