SE Titan from £989 to £399?!

So is this mic now a bargin? it got great reviews at it's old price (magazine reviews) but I don't think it sold well not many have one.

Anyway I am prob going to pick one up (for quite a bit off that price!) just wondered if anyone else had seen this price drop and had an opinion on the mic.

Is that a legit place? Or is it like the Brooklyn (NY) camera stores that "sell" for 1/3rd retail price, but never deliver and end up sending you another (mega cheap) product. Scams.

I'm not meaning to call BS on anything, just wanting to make sure it's a safe place to order from. If they were in Brooklyn at least I could go down there and kick their ass were it a scam. If it's on the Isle of Man or something I can't exactly just drive down there.

DV are usually OK for this stuff. A prosumer store but if you know what you want they are fine to deal with.

That's the condenser version of the lightbulb mic. I'll try one for $400 if it's returnable...

I've had a Titan for quite a while now and I've grown very fond of it. Use it for lots of things but it particularly suits my voice. At this price a real bargain.

So you're not leaning in the "gearslut of royal rank" direction?

I have too many mics already between my personal collection and the studio I freelance at. I'm serious. Probably like 30-40 to choose from. I know that's still not THAT many, but I guess i haven't felt the need for more recently.

Although I have been looking at SE mics and wondering if I should give one a try.

I got an ex demo Gemini MKII last year for half price and for that money it is great, I would say it was worth the full price if you had a load of other mics because it isn't one I would use on everything but on the right source in can be really good.

I know this thread is a few months old but I had to throw my hat in the ring.
I've recorded with these quite a few times; voice, acc guitar and a small orchestra. Produces good results and a punchy low end and decent top to.
For £299 these microphones are a bargain order one today.... no scratch that get two.

I'd jump on that deal. I'd get two so you can do a stereo pair when needed. I bought two of these (b-stocks) for around that same price a couple years ago.... love them... in my studio they often get chosen over several high end classics on particular sources.

Grab one if you can, they're wicked and have a good character of their own. Kinda smooth - for some reason I found myself wanting to describe it as "BBC" sounding. No, I don't know what that means either, it's just the description that kept popping into my head!

Great price - you'll get a lot more than you pay for at this rate. If I could pick between a Titan and a U67 for one mic to have for life, I'd choose the U67, but if I had a chance to grab one or two (more) Titans for my room at a great price I would have no hesitations. Get In!

D :-)

Just because prices are dumped doesn't mean its a bad product. It has to do with salespeople offering massive discount on large orders, and the product not selling as good as they expected. Add to that the currency shifting between EUR, USD and GPB and you have some online discounters fighting for the best price.
Good for the buyer, but also very confusing.

Thank god for forums and customer reviews.

This is an old thread! I've just moved house and these are the only mics that I kept out of storage (with friends etc)

Really like them, versatile mics. I heard that they were discounted because they were getting discountinued?

Just bought one for $399 new. Killer Killer deal if you ask me. Was $1450. Got great reviews. Sounds great on everything. Nice character. Exceptionally fast. They're clearanced out so once they're gone they're gone and used prices will remain at $650-ish. I know it's an old thread just wanted to get the word out on this deal.

Another cool thing i should point out is postage is free when purchasing more than 199 euros from Thomann!

I feel your pain trevoire, been there. I think sometimes in this business you have to be creative with your purchasing decisions.

I read someone here say that you have to assess the return on your setup and move on what you don't seem to use. Good advice I think. As long as you factor in second hand depreciation eating away income over time. From what I hear about these mics, at this price, they'll hopefully replace some old mics I can sell on? We'll see.

P.S. thanks for all the input guys.

Regards,

rad.

in todays market it's what they're worth. There are a number of better mic's at the sub £1k price point now - eg Chartoak, Peluso and AAmicrophones..... all making much better mic's than the Titan. The pricing makes sense with some of the new competition.

ill let you know when I try them, they've just arrived. I think for the price they should certainly be decent as utility mics for rooms, toms, outside kick etc. I'm hoping theyre going to beat my nt5s as OH's.
