| Greetings! I was perusing the Korg user group site and there was a thread regarding keyboard stands. There was even a query if anyone would be interested in custom made stands. One of my concerns is that I want to use 3 keyboards. Yes, I have modules and other sound EFX and equipment, but when it comes down to things - I still would just like a keyboard stand with 3 tiers. Now then, double braced like the quiklok, but the tiers must be closer to the front, for I play in a seated position and do (depending on the tune) stand for certain songs. The 3rd tier is usually a mile away and usually very short in length of the braces that hold anything other than a smaller sized keyboard. I use a Korg extreme 61 as my second KB. I have an 88 key for the bottom, and also to stabilize the stand if more keyboards are used. The problem comes when I would like to place the Extreme on the 3rd tier. And maybe use a minimoog, either version, on the 2nd or 3rd tier. Tiers are not long enough, strong enough, etc... Someone's got to consider designing a KB stand for the giging guys like me and us that are out there. Another mention was to possible allow a small rack to sit within the stand, possibly UNDER the bottom KB. This design should accomodate at most a 4 space rack/rack bag. Ah yes, wishes... Anyone know of someone that can help design such a creature? Yes, I am not ignorant of the fact that price would be an issue, but if quantities would be purchased, one would justify the other.. Anyway, thanks for reading. B9 |

| If you put a 4 space rack under your bottom keyboard, where are you going to put your knees when you sit down? Answering my own question, I used to have a 19" rack the right height for a keyboard stand. I put foam weather stripping on the top, so the keyboard wouldn't slide around. Sitting at the keyboard meant putting your legs in a very un-ladylike position, but, being a guy, it wasn't a problem. I then added a second tier with a couple of plywood/aluminum holder thingies that bolted onto the side of the rack. The holder thingies were designed so that the front of the second keyboard rested on top of the first one - something you can only do if the first keyboard has a top edge suitable for such an arrangement. The third tier would be a challenge. Perhaps use one of those flimsy stands for the third tier, one that would straddle the rack. My fave keyboard stand was made by Roland, years ago, when they were selling the 88 key electronic Rhodes (not the real Rhodes.) The keyboard weighed close to a hundred pounds. The stand has 4 chrome legs and a flat top. The legs fold out and snap into place. It's very sturdy - no wiggling whatsoever. The legs are also adjustable, with allen screws, to telescope them longer in 2 inch increments. I mounted a single rack space mixer under the stand, and found some clamp-on holders for the second tier. (I'm too old to worry about a third tier.) If you need a photo, I'm gigging the next 3 nights, and I could probably take one and upload it.
