Labeling a CD/DVD (with image)

I just finished my Sound Design/Scoring Reel in DVD Studio Pro and have made some DVD's to hand off to potential employers to show examples of my work. Now what I would like to do is print a nice label on the DVD's. Nothing fancy but I certainly do not want to just write on the disc with a sharpie. Does anyone know what my options are? I do not have a printer, can I go to somewhere like Kinkos and pay a little money and do this? I live in NYC, are there any places that do this sort of thing? The sooner the better and the less money spent the better! Thanks.

You can download software and buy labels from www.surething.com. I have used thiers for years. They have a matt finish and a gloss finish available. You can design the label on your pc and use a friends pc or mac to print the label on inkjet... pretty cheap.

They also have a piece to help mount the labels by hand after they are printed. I used it for a long time (I print directly on the disc now) and had very few rejects.

A lot of newer printers print straight onto a white CD or DVD, check out the epson stylus range of printers, I bought 1 a while back for cheap, best printer I've ever owned.

$100 buys you a decent Canon printer that will print very nicely on CD's.

Don't bother with labels - more hassle than they're worth, they can un-peel in laptops (no fun) and the end result doesn't look anything like as good as a direct ink-jet print.

I've been using Light Scribe disks (both CD and DVD), and they work exceedingly well and look great. No label to peel off or deal with, no special printer required. I think I paid around $35. for my Light Scribe burner from NewEgg.

Good call on the cannons. I forgot about those. that was a step in our process as well.. from labels to a production unit. They are great for small jobs.

Lightscribe is cool but is monotone. The Cannon or labels if you are forced will let you make something that pops and being noticed is what you are after, if I remember well. But any of the 3 CAN look professional.

Does this mean the labels are the new analog?

Another vote for Epson. For <$100 you can get semi-photo quality, full color
discs in about a minute. I've been using Verbatim Matte Finished Silver Faced discs which give a 3-dimensional look.
