Burning in Headphones??

I am about to get the HD600. Is the "burning in" technique true?

All speakers change over time. All you can do is hasten that change. After the first 8 hours or so of constant play, I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference. So, leave some reasonably full range material playing overnight or so at a decent volume and that should be enough.

Not discounting Sid's opinion (He is a great GS poster) but IMHO,

Blah blah blah speakers change blah blah

I don't buy that it changes drastically/perceptibly.

You are using these to mix? Just make sure you check your mixes on other places (boombox, car, home stereo etc). And you will adjust to any changes your headphones make to the frequency response.

As always USE YOUR EARS!

Good luck man!

Thanks Mayor!!

My wife and I have a baby so I will be forced to use headphones for at least 50% of the time while mixing. I do however have a nicely treated room, DAC-1 and the much beloved at Gearslutz Mackie HR824's.

With the HD600 and 650's, it's good to let some music run through them for a good period of time. Over the weekend is a good idea. They will change slightly from fresh out of the box until the end of that weekend.

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

my hd-555 pair improved noticeably after about the first 30 hours. i would assume the amount of change may vary from pair to pair, but the burn-in time made a difference for me.

All the Sennheiser Headphones I own have needed Burning-In. Have 590,600,200 etc.....
The HP settles in and the sound blooms after a good 10-30 hours depending on the model.

Have had a not so perceptible difference with other makes like SONY.

Grados have needed the burn-in too.

Cheers,

Madsmix
