Digidesign EQ III.

I own a bunch of really good plugin EQ (SSL, Oxford, McDSP etc.) but they're no better than the free digi one IMHO.

I still use Filterbank for all my filtering though.

Digi EQ III works great!
I also love the MDW for the isopeak function and clean.
For some iron characteristic I have the URS 1073.

Did Digi fix the Bug in EQIII? I had a problem for awhile where when I opened a session, any track that used the EQIII's HPF, the sound of that track was super filtered. I'd have the HPF set to 100hz or something, however, it sounded like it was filtering everything up to 1k. By clicking bypass on the plugin and then un-bypassing it, the problem would go away. I'd have to inspect every track with EQIII. Eventually I just gave up using it and haven't looked back. I'm on PT HD 7.4 now and this post got me wondering. I did tend to like that EQ, other than that bug.

The Oxford has been my plugin EQ of choice for quite some time now.

+1. The only exception to this for me is the Massenburg MDW, which is my go-to.

I haven't experienced the EQ III bug, this is the first I've heard about it (but I don't visit the DUC often).

Sonalksis 517(can't beat it for the money and processor usage)

UAD Neve 1073. The first time I ran it I was floored. I'm sure the same thing will happen when I try a high end analog eq for the first time.

In my opinion the API 550b plug works over the SSL , even though the all the waves plugs have a tendency to sound somewhat similar... like it's waves "take" on a module wether than a software version of it. That being said , the Sony Oxford kills on vocals in "type A mode". The high end of the eq gets sweet and will "crunch" before it gets sibilant which is different from any of the waves plugs that sound about the same at 16khz and up(V series , API, and SSL). The Massenburg option is excellent on vocals too , but even more on instruments and master buss. This is ONLY my opinion . I've had the SSL and Sony for about a year and a half and the waves and API for just a couple of months so I've got some more practicing to do with them. On another note, the Api and Vseries compressors are doing just great for me. They turned into my two main "go to's" for my mixes. Whether it's vocals or master buss. The SSL is nice and punchy too. I'm not mad at waves for that , but that's just me...

+1 for Channel Strip Pro.
Altough I agree that EQ III can be very useful, and sometimes for snares and elguitars Masseys vt3 can be just the ticket

I have accidently become an owner of Oxford plugins, and I must say that the EQ is one of the worst that I've used. PSP Neon (LP off, delay compensation off) is so much better (and cheaper) during mixing - no TDM unfortunately. McDSP Filterbank became my new favourite today - it is incredible on keeping hi mids and highs together despite extreme boosts or cuts. Oxford makes everything grainy, even with lowest Q settings.
Oxford Inflator is another story - great plugin, but it's not EQ though!

I certainly haven't tried them all, but I agree with the poster above that said that the UAD 1073 is special. It is like no other software eq that I have used. It truly has that holy s*** factor.

+1 with a bullet!

After those, or in certain applications, I always reach for UAD Pultec Pro (definitely 2nd favorite EQ after the Duende's)

That covers over 90% of my EQ plugin use. From there you'll find a smattering of the UAD 1073, 1081 and Cambridge.

Though not an 'EQ', per se, the 'EQ' on the PSP Vintage Warmer ain't half bad either.

Protools EQ3. Use it alot. It may say 12 db at 18khz. But sounds like 6 db at 10k. Regardless it is a fine program. Awesome eq.

UAD Neve 1073, 1081, Pultec, Helios & Cambridge (did I just name them all?)

Sony Oxford

and once I get a chance to score a Duende, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to put that in the list!

In the mastering world, Algorithmix, but not available for pro tools. Oxford, MDW, and Sonalksis are also worth checking out. Heard nice things about the UAD stuff, but haven't tried it myself.
