Adding extra aux send to a mixer channel?

So I'm thinking on some of the channels were I may need extra aux sends, Ying off the line before the input on the mixer running the to both the main mixer and another mixer with extra aux sends, then running the effects back to the main mixer without the signal from the extra mixer going back to the main mixer because that will be controlled through the main mixer (other end of the Y). Obviously the effect will not be changed with the channel fader on the main mixer but besides that, will it work?

It will work...however I would do it a couple of different ways....

If you are not using inserts on the channels you need more aux's on I would use the Insert Send on that channel.

OR

If you have separate direct outs I would use those...

OR

As you suggested if you have a patch bay / Y-chords I would use them.

The reason for the top two options is to have that gain stage in there and depending on your mixer any EQ/inserts and what not. I am very wary about using Y cables unless I absolutely have to.

Cheers!
